Job Description

The Role

As a Software Engineer on the Striveworks Technical Engagements team you’ll be challenged—and trusted—on day one to be a core contributor to the projects and direction of the company.  You will be a key Striveworks representative and solutions provider to sites and customers where Chariot is deployed.

You will use your expertise to integrate and apply the Striveworks platform, and rapidly prototype and deliver machine learning capabilities for our customers.  Those capabilities will start with the Striveworks platform but will also require custom algorithms and software systems.  You’ll tackle real-world problems as they unfold, utilizing your technical and communication skills to provide reliable and scalable solutions.

You are right for this challenge if you:

  • Value and possess technical expertise and you push the boundaries of your own capabilities
  • Are outcome-driven, not requirements-driven
  • Know that customer-facing activities, technical communications, and time management skills are all important
  • Are passionate about the intersection of Software Engineering and Data Science

This role both allows and requires flexibility in work location. At times, you will be tasked with on-site, sporadic travel to customer locations. At other times, you can be based in our Austin, Texas headquarters, or in a remote location.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $190,000-240,000/year. In addition to base pay Striveworks offers annual performance-based equity paired with a lucrative cash bonus, a full benefits suite, and two compensation reviews per year.

Potential projects include:

  • Orchestration and automation of complex data engineering and analytic pipelines
  • Optimizing, deploying, and refining machine learning models and algorithms on image, video, text, geospatial, time-series, and/or tabular data
  • Everything as Code
  • Writing the critical "last mile" code and analytics that bridge the gaps between available products, platforms, and models, and the customer's requirements
  • Implement and deploy software into cloud environments
  • Opportunity to conduct mission-critical field work
The Right Fit

We spend a lot of time in our hiring process talking about shared values, because we passionately believe that fostering an environment where people can self-actualize and pursue greatness is the best way to achieve our individual and collective goals. What does this mean? We want an environment where our team members persevere relentlessly to achieve their goals. We want an environment where team members know the team has the same goals, and they make and accept decisions for the team with humility. If your say/do ratio is 1, if you know that there is no smartest person in the room, then we’re already on the same page.

Here's what else we are looking for:

  • Excellence in Python
  • Strong previous experience in building and delivering production analytics capabilities
  • Deep expertise in algorithms and data structures
  • Exposure to DevOps tooling and best practices: Git, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD tools
  • Familiarity with JavaScript
  • Familiarity with database design and architecture: relational and non-relational
  • Driven, self-directed personality
  • Strong sense of mission and commitment to making a difference
  • B.S. degree in computer science, machine learning, or related discipline; and 4+ years relevant experience
  • Active Top Secret security clearance
  • Able and willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%
The Wish List

We’re very interested in Software Engineers that possess the above qualifications, and heavily appreciate and consider the addition of:

  • Experience with ETL pipelines, data pipelines, and/or workflow automation
  • Understanding of JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular
  • Comfortable with 1+ cloud architectures
  • Experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs
  • Comfort with deep learning library (Tensorflow, Pytorch) implementation and integration
  • Understanding of synchronous and asynchronous programming, concurrency
  • Understanding of networked and distributed computing (gRPC)
  • Knowledge of messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar
The Tech Stack

We believe in constant curiosity and peer-driven learning. As a Software Engineer at Striveworks, you will learn about— or teach— the latest software technologies and processes, participate in open-source projects, and take part in pair programming. Find some of our public projects at github.com/Striveworks. You will be able to grow your skills in:

  • Python, PyTorch, NumPy, Golang
  • Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, kOps
  • React, Typescript, Angular
  • Flyte
The Benefits
  • Top-of-market salary and total compensation
  • Generous equity plan
  • Health/vision/dental insurance
  • Flexible PTO plan
  • Parental leave
Striveworks: Better Models, Faster

The world’s looked to data analytics to bridge the gap between floods of data and the struggle to use that data effectively to make timely, impactful decisions.  Today, most organizations are awash in analytics that “aren’t quite right” – models that were developed too generally, or too slowly, to be effective in dynamic, fast-paced environments.  Striveworks is simplifying ModelOps with a powerful and extensible platform that instantiates the data analytic process as code.

Striveworks is trusted by leading Fortune 500 firms as well as leaders in the public sector to be their primary solution for managing model development, monitoring, and governance – and ensuring those models solve the real challenges their organizations face.

Striveworks’ Chariot Platform enables users to turn their own data into models and turn models into production systems.  Uniquely, as you train, test, deploy, and use models, our lineage system enables you to track both the “upstream” provenance of model and data sources, as well as the “downstream” usage of the resultant model inferences.  Combining a unique tech stack with a highly principled experience for data and model development, Chariot gives our customers in highly regulated industries an unmatched governance solution on top of a performant ModelOps platform.

Striveworks will not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind.
