Software Engineer

Job Description

BITCO Corporation is currently seeking a Software Engineer to join our Home Office team in Davenport, IA. BITCO provides quality insurance services to special industries including construction, forest products, and oil gas. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Position Summary:

Working as part of the Applications Development team within our Information Technology department, this position is responsible for the coding, design, modification, and testing of large scale IT solutions. This position establishes strong analytical skills and breadth of knowledge across a majority of our supported technical disciplines and business solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Moderately comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions, fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines
• Demonstrated success in object-oriented software development and testing that results in working solutions
• Works with other Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers or management to create specifications, design and develop solutions to meet the needs of our customers
• Collaborates with other Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers to enhance skillset
• Takes responsibility for some or all of a Software product while contributing as a member of a solutions team
• Consults with internal customers to define application requirements, specifications, and to design information processing procedures
• Knowledge of full lifecycle of product development, from architecture and design, through integration, test, and field support
• Writes, tests, and debugs programs and system level solutions
• Prepares and reviews test data
• Documents program information and procedures
• Other programming duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Ability to refactor code for reusability, readability, and maintainability in an object-oriented codebase
• Knowledge of all phases of software development: architecture, design, implementation, testing, and system integration
• Ability to estimate development tasks for medium- to large-sized projects
• Proficient and experience with the following:
  • Systems analysis, design, and programming
  • Maintaining and writing code using current Microsoft products
  • SQL Databases including but not limited to database design, writing queries and stored procedures
  • Website building using current programming practices
  • Requirements gathering, analyzing and determining feasibility, working with others to design and recommend solutions
• Ability to identify issues and determine appropriate resolutions
• Overall understanding of project management lifecycles
• Familiarity with current technologies and evolving trends
• Ability to learn new skills languages as they are released
• Ability to prioritize a large workload while maintaining a sense of urgency
• Proven ability to exercise independent judgement and decision making
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external customers
• Must be able to provide rotating on-call support of production systems
