This position can be based remotely in any of our approved hiring regions. Our hybrid distributed workforce philosophy allows us to find the best talent in the country and build diverse teams, while allowing our colleagues to work from the location that works best for them. For those who prefer to work in-office, we have locations in San Francisco and Pittsburgh. We also plan to use these spaces to bring together teammates to drive creativity and innovation.
Your day to day
- Engineer: Implement well-tested features in our web applications and back-end loan origination services.
- Maintain a high quality bar: Champion code quality with thorough PR review, focusing on test automation using unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Reduce Technical Debt: Identify and act on opportunities to improve the existing code base before accomplishing the task at hand.
- Execute: Focus on delivering high impact initiatives that provide value to the customer on a daily basis.
- Collaborate: Work in a highly collaborative environment both closely with other engineers,and with our design and product teams as well as with our business stakeholders to build the right solutions for our customers.
- Think Customer-first: Ensure that our customers are successful and happy.
- Define Technical Strategy: Build software consistent with the company’s technical strategy and architectural design. Contribute new ideas and improvements to the architecture.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for frontend, backend and full stack engineers. It all depends on where you can have the most impact. We have both functional and cross-functional teams. The product-oriented teams are cross-functional and are able to work quickly without taking dependencies in order to deliver the most impact in the shortest amount of time. These cross-functional teams operate like small independent business units with their own goals that align with the company goals.Â

- Programming Languages: Ruby, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Kotlin are the languages we use most. We expect that if you’ve learned more than one programming language you can learn ours.
- Frontend Frameworks: React, GraphQL, Next.js
- Backend Frameworks: Rails, Node.js, Kafka
- Databases: Postgres, Redis
- Service Oriented Architecture: We are shifting from being a monolithic Rails application to a distributed set of services. Experience having done this in the past is super useful to us.
- AppSec: We handle customer’s private information and we move billions of dollars around. Having experience with application security is important to us.
We are hiring two Software Engineers- one for each of the following teams:Â
GrowthThe Growth team is the most exciting team at Kiavi. Shh. Don’t tell the others. Growth works to improve loan volume and margin through feature work that meets our customers where they are. We work on a number of new initiatives to broaden and improve our existing financial products. This includes projects like taking Kiavi to new states, and broadening the capabilities of our short term loans to handle condominiums and new construction. Within this work is a license to improve and future proof existing architecture via modular and robust service oriented architecture.
Instant DecisionOur team seeks out the most arduous or inefficient processes in our loan origination system and fixes them. We get to the root of flaws in the design of our legacy software and products and fix both, aggressively extracting specific business concerns into dedicated services and improving the experience for our internal and external users. The kinds of improvements we’re seeking include avoiding wasted work by our loan origination experts so they can get more done, getting specific approvals and denials to our customers early in their application process, and transforming our code base from a monolithic application to a set of services and web applications with clear responsibilities.
Kiavi takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. The expected annualized base pay range for this full-time role to be performed remotely is $120,000 - $162,000 + equity + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Please note that the pay range listed above reflects the base salary only, and does not include the target value of equity, or benefits.
