Job Description Summary:

As an engineer on the Credit Production Engineering (CPE) team, you will help support and troubleshoot the applications which allow our customers to apply for and use our various Credit products. The CPE team uses a follow-the-sun model, with support from both North America and India. This role includes triaging and leading issues on PayPal live site to resolution in coordination with product development teams, the PayPal Command Center, and Site Operations teams. Additionally, you will identify exposures and mitigation plans ranging from making customers whole to helping teams determine the root causes of failed customer interactions. Finally, you’ll facilitate corrective actions through product and process enhancements to mitigate or eliminate future issues and give our customers the best experience possible.

Job Description:

  • Triage and troubleshoot issues for PayPal Credit products and applications on the live site.
  • Second-level support for live site production issues. Provide initial triage and response to unknown issues/incidents, and identifying additional experts as needed to engage.
  • When needed, develop and implement immediate stop-gap fixes for processes and tools engaging Product Development team resources to develop long term solutions.
  • Work with Site Operation and command center teams to address sites issues.
  • Weekend and after-hours support, on a rotating schedule, is required.

Basic Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years experience as a site reliability engineer (SRE) or supporting applications in a 24x7 production environment is a plus.
  • Experience with setting up alerts and monitoring from consuming application logs and metrics.
  • Experience with the UNIX environment, commands, and shell scripting.
  • Experience with relational database management systems and writing simple SQL statements.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP, DNS, HTTP, SSL/TLS, certificates, etc.).

Other Potential Job Qualifications

  • Strong production support experience.
  • Experience in alerting and monitoring tools, including Splunk, PagerDuty, DataDog, etc.
  • Production incident management experience, such as active troubleshooting, classifying issues, leading post-incident meetings, and creating and implementing corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Java and Spring.
  • Experience with RESTful web services and SOA concepts.
  • Experience with Git source control and effective branching and release management practices.
  • Knowledge of public cloud infrastructure and their APIs.
  • Have a proven career of continuous learning and motivation for self-improvement.
