Software Engineer

Hearst Newspapers is revamping some of our core CMS components and looking for a talented Software Engineer to help us. They play a significant role on our engineering team, developing the user facing applications for our company's websites, mobile web application, proprietary CMS and related backend components. Engineers collaborate openly in an Agile Software Development environment with other members of our team including Front-end Engineers, QA, Designers, as well as Project Managers. They participate in our development processes by establishing and documenting development standards and common components for common usage across all of our applications.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer with a solid technical background, able to work in a fast-paced environment, writing clean reusable code that scales. As an engineer, you will be responsible for building software that meets Product Management requirements. You'll work with other developers and QA analysts to bring these projects to completion. • Project coding and platform development • Understand software development lifecycle and release process • Mitigate project issues • Conduct team code reviews • Coordinate with other teams for projects that span multiple departments

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 4+ years software development experience
• Excellent communication skills, ability to work well in a team
• Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency, and drive. We want a self-starter
• Proficient working in an Agile Software Development environment
• Experience in ETL large volume of data using XML / XSL / XSD
• Production experience building Node.js applications
• Experience in writing reliable unit tests
• Proficient in Web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

Preferred Qualifications
• Proficient in Typescript (or ES6) • Familiar with .NET (C#) framework development
• Experience in DevOps methodologies - CI/CD pipelines, Git version control
• Production experience with a RDBMS (MySQL) / NoSQL database
• Familiar with technologies such as PHP, Apache and Solr
• Familiar with development using React, Webpack
