Job Summary

The Delivery Engineering team owns delivery platforms and automation tools that support engineering teams developing services and applications that run Comcast products. We are passionate about all aspects of building and delivering strong work and enabling other Comcast engineers to deliver their software better, cheaper and faster. Beyond building and operating the platform, we are stewards of Delivery practices for a large Comcast technology organization, helping thousands of engineers deliver their software better, cheaper, and faster.

As a Software Engineer working on the Delivery Engineering team as part of the DevX organization, you will be building next-generation applications to enable teams within TPX to deploy reliable, performant, and scalable software products. You will build and operate delivery platform(s) and serve as a steward of software delivery practices.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Write and review tested, production-quality code and appropriate levels of documentation
  • Operate and support production environments (including on-call and internal customer support)
  • Operate the central delivery solution as a highly available, performant and scalable platform
  • Serve as an ambassador of CI/CD technologies and platform engineering to the broader technical community, both inside and outside Comcast

Qualifications

  • Relevant Computer Science coursework or bootcamp experience/equivalent
  • 3+ year practical software development experience
  • Experience with automated testing and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices
  • Strong knowledge of deployment and debugging in Linux container environments
  • Excellent software development skills, in one of the diverse programming styles (procedural, object-oriented, functional)
  • Hands-on experience developing service-oriented architectures and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and practices
  • Experience with platform engineering a plus
  • UNIX/Linux background: facility with command-line utilities; familiarity with system administration tools and concepts a plus
  • Experience with Concourse, Go, Ansible, Terraform, AWS and Kubernetes a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot sophisticated distributed systems to identify and resolve issues
  • Understanding of security best practices
  • Experience with Open Source contributions a plus
  • We're interested in attracting a diverse set of candidates for this position. If you're not sure if you qualify, please apply

DevX Team Support:

  • We actively participate in a week-long 3-times-a-year LabWeek - a Hackathon where we test out innovative ways to push our platforms and products into the future.
  • We take the time to learn and teach each other through multiple internal technology conferences throughout the year.
  • We actively participate in dedicated technology, leadership and culture discussion forums, book clubs and internal podcasts.
  • We take the time to have fun and build team camaraderie and psychological safety.
  • We support career exploration through project opportunities, rotations and gigs

Our Values

  • We value usable and working solutions now over a perfect solution later
  • We value using good enough Open Source software over perfect commercial software
  • We value diversity of opinion over group consensus
  • We value being able to pursue a plan together over everyone agreeing that the plan is the best one
  • We value context and responsibility over management visibility and direction
  • We start from the assumption that someone, somewhere has already figured out a solution to a problem; we value using their results over rediscovering them ourselves
  • We value actively and humbly seeking and appreciating honest feedback over preserving our egos
  • We value making decisions with research and reason over tradition or fear; we are fans of the scientific method
  • We value empathetic asynchronous communication and deep work over meeting-driven work
  • We value critiquing ideas instead of the person. We operate in a blameless culture.
