Software Engineer - eCommerce
Job Description
We recently launched Scale Catalog to provide AI-enabled data infrastructure for eCommerce. Scale Catalog is the fastest growing product in the company’s history.
In eCommerce, the most valuable data is catalog data, the selection of products and the richness of their associated metadata. However, maintaining and cleaning this high-quality catalog is a messy, difficult problem. A high-quality catalog means there are no duplicates (there aren’t two different pages each selling the same KIND bar or two records for the blue sweater and another for the red one), and each product is enriched with copious amounts of canonical metadata (category, style, material, color, brand, price, nutritional information, length, weight, ingredients, flavor, food category, health information, etc).
This catalog data is what underlies successful user purchases, on-time order fulfillment, and personalized recommendations. Similar to Scale’s beliefs about AI as a whole, we believe that starting with improving the underlying data quality is an extremely valuable offering to marketplaces, brands, stores, platforms, and really anyone selling something online.
Using Scale’s expertise in high-availability software, ML, and human annotation, we’ve developed a suite of composable APIs to stream enhanced product data to our customers. Ecommerce leaders like Instacart, Pinterest, and Faire use it to improve the conversion and engagement of their platforms.
In this role, you'll be given the opportunity to own critical parts of our product to meaningfully drive millions of dollars in revenue. You’ll work with talented engineers and operators across the US, Argentina, Europe, and Mexico. The ideal person is a natural entrepreneurial engineer who can take an ambiguous scope and lead the execution of outcomes, doing what it takes to hit them incl coding, talking to customers, defining requirements, etc.
You’re excited about solving customer problems, and you pick the technologies and tactics that balance speed, function, and long-term robustness.
Â
The ideal person would do the following:
- Own large new areas within our product
- Build technologies ranging from frontend and backend to automated ML systems
- Deliver experiments at a high velocity and level of quality to engage our customers
- Work deeply with sales and marketing to increase customer engagement
- Work across the entire product lifecycle from conceptualization through production
- Be able, and willing, to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly
You have:
- 2+ years of full-time engineering experience, post-graduation
- Experience at other API technology companies
- Excitement to work with AI technologies
The base salary range for this full-time position in our hub locations of San Francisco, New York, or Seattle, is $212,800-$266,000. Compensation packages at Scale include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position, determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Scale employees are also granted Stock Options that are awarded upon board of director approval. You’ll also receive benefits including, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. Additionally, this role may be eligible for additional benefits such as a commuter stipend.
