Job Description
What You Will Be Doing:
As a Software Engineer, you will participate in all aspects of the Software Development lifecycle by supporting Penskeu2019s proprietary Fuel and Billing applications including Fuel Purchasing and reconciliation, Fuel Cost maintenance, Fuel card support, Lease, Maintenance, and Fuel billing systems. You will troubleshoot issues as they occur while also developing new software modules across multiple small to medium projects concurrently. You will have an opportunity to lead the design of certain software components and suggest new products, applications, and features based on industry and technological trends and advances. You will also consult with process owners in reviewing, interpreting and developing systems in accordance with user requirements. You will be responsible to work with business and develop Fuel modernization roadmap. You will be working with a diverse team and mentoring junior software engineers.
Ideal candidates will have development experience in the following areas:
u2022 Strong experience in IBM I programming (RPG, CL, ILE, SQL)
u2022 SQL -Experience in writing optimized complex SQL statements in DB2
u2022 Experience with Agile methodology and usage of Jira board with daily standups
u2022 Strong negotiation skills and experience in working with internal customers and external vendors.
u2022 Understanding of Web Services/Restful API, SOA, XML/JSON.
u2022 Full System Development Lifecycle experience
u2022 Hybrid working model 2 to 3 days in office.
u2022 Oncall support during critical system failures.
u2022 Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
This position will be based out of Reading, Pennsylvania.
About the team:
Specifically, this role will be an integral part of our Fuel, Billing, and EDI development groups that are collocated in Reading-PA, Tampa-FL, and India. You will be responsible for working with internal customers, external vendors, consultants, and various cross-functional teams.
Penske Responsibilities:
u2022 Be the primary contact and lead support associate for multiple applications.
u2022 Play a critical role in supporting the application lifecycle (design, development, test, release, and support) based on detailed requirements and guidance from senior engineers/leads.
u2022 Collaborate with technical/business leaders and product owners to acquire and understand requirements/acceptance criteria.
u2022 Develop, maintain, test, analyze performance, troubleshoot/fix applications and applicable code
u2022 Support mission-critical applications and assist in the resolution of customer issues.
u2022 Design backend database schemas.
u2022 Produce deliverables with clean, well-documented, and easily maintainable code that adheres to defined coding standards.
u2022 Write unit / UI tests to identify defects and leverage CI/CD for building and deploying code.
u2022 Triage production issues and work with multiple teams to perform problem analysis.
u2022 Assign and review tasks from junior and offshore software engineers.
u2022 Participate in conducting new hire interviews.
u2022 Influence the discovery and decision-making process when changes to standards and technology are required (tools, conventions, and design patterns)
u2022 Provides support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, and implementation strategies)
u2022 Other projects/tasks as assigned.
Penske Qualifications:
u2022 Bacheloru2019s Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent years of software development experience
u2022 5-7 years experience in appropriate programming languages dependent on the role(IBM-i)
u2022 Strong experience in RPG/400, RPG FREE, ILE, CL, CLLE, DBU, DB2SQL, SQLRPGLE
u2022 IBM I rational, Implementer/MDCMS, Xanalysis, Advance Query Tool, Jira, Confluence
u2022 Must ensure assigned tasks are completed on time to meet sprint velocity.
u2022 Knowledge of appropriate design frameworks and patterns and experience in implementing them in software development.
u2022 Knowledge of industry-wide technology strategies and best practices.
u2022 Experience in relational database design.
u2022 Knowledge and experience of the Agile software development methodology.
u2022 Ability to research emerging software development frameworks and tools.
u2022 Ability to estimate medium to large-sized projects.
u2022 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
u2022 Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
u2022 Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
u2022 Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
