What's the role?
We're looking for an established JavaScript engineer to help us enhance and maintain an Apollo GraphQL supergraph and its component subgraphs. The role requires an agile engineering mindset, exceptional technical skills, patience and persistence to solve complex problems, along with the ability to get things done quickly and thoughtfully. What are we looking for?
Technical excellence:
- JavaScript expertise (Node, TypeScript).
- Experience building GraphQL services.
Effective communicator:
- Can easily explain concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Team player:
- Brings out the best in fellow engineers.
- Can be an ambassador to other teams.
Strong sense of ownership:
- Takes pride in their craft and responsibility for issues that may arise.
Nice to haves:
- Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Terraform)
- Background working with web proxy tech (NGINX, OpenResty)

Pay Range - Start:
$82,670.00
Pay Range - End:
$153,530.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
