Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related computer programs. Code may be used in commercial or end-user applications, such as materials management, financial management, HRIS, mobile apps or desktop applications products. Using current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. May interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.

Reporting to the Manager, Applications Development the Java Software Engineer II will be a member of one of development teams team supporting the payment pod. This individual will have the opportunity to gain exposure and quickly begin working within cloud environments. This position will equally require both frontend and backend work.

What you will be doing: 

  • Developing features for Availity’s Health Plan Configuration, Appeals, and Overpayments products
  • Participating in daily stand ups
  • Implementing a backlog of items to fulfill a focused roadmap
  • Gaining exposure and working with AWS
  • Working on a team following Agile Scrum principles
  • Incorporating development best practices
  • Using such technologies as Java, JavaScript, React.js, Postgres, & AWS
  • Applying micro-service architectures
  • Hosting and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Ensuring your code is efficient, optimized, and performant
  • Writing code to maintain large-scale complex systems
  • Managing maintainable levels of technical debt and applying security principles
  • Collaborating on programming or development standards
  • Reviewing the code of others while receiving feedback to ensure code quality
  • Innovating with ideas and products to the organization
  • Performing unit testing and complex debugging to ensure quality
  • Applying Object Oriented Design (OOD) principles
  • Leveraging Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes/Openshift, or similar tools for delivery
  • Gathering technical requirements
  • Writing technical documentation

Requirements: 

  • 2-3 years of progressive work experience designing & developing solutions for business initiatives
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Leverages or knowledgeable of the following languages & frameworks
    • Java
    • Javascript
    • Relational Database Model
  • RESTful APIs and web services experience
  • Familiarity/Experience with the following will set your resume apart:
    • React.js
    • Knowledge of the healthcare industry
    • Postgres
    • AWS
