We are looking for a skilled and motivated Software Engineer III to join a team developing Orbital Reef Logistics Software, including, on-orbit interfaces, logistics and transportation simulations, supply chain systems, and object-tracking systems. As a software engineer focused on logistics tools, you will be a key member of a team of experts supporting the Orbital Reef Space Station, developing software platforms to enable real-time analysis and decision-making. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of products using innovative software and hardware technologies. We use the latest AWS technologies, data approaches, and ML to build distributed highly available systems to achieve our goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of the software - from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement
- Support services before they go to production through activities such as system design, consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, scaling and launch reviews.
- Maintain software once it is live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health
- Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
- Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
- Configure, deploy, scale, and administer open source and commercial software
Must-haves:
- Bachelors of Science degree in an aerospace engineering, computer science, software engineering, or related discipline and typically six (6) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience
- Relevant work experience may substitute for required education
- Understanding of and experience with modern software development practices
- Interest in analyzing and troubleshooting distributed systems
- Familiarity with "infrastructure as code" and technologies used to achieve this
- Knowledge of software defined networking (VPC, Subnets, Firewalls, VPNs, etc.)
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (such as Docker) and orchestration platforms (such as Kubernetes)
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes & Docker, Gitlab, Linux, JavaScript/TypeScript and Python.
Preferred:
- Terraform and AWS experience
- Experience with relational or non-relational databases, including configuring, deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting
- Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
- API design experience
- Aerospace Industry experience with safety critical software and/or tools qualification activities

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $101,774.67 - $139,940.19
