Compensation - $20.00 - $25.00 hour

You might be surprised to hear it, but tape technology supports the backbone of nearly everything we do with data in our modern world. At Spectra Logic we implement tape solutions that make it possible for many high-performance computing centers across the world to load and store the vast quantities of experimental data, such as that used in nuclear fusion simulations, medical research, and astrophysics research. Our work helps ensure the archival of movies, television, and sports franchises in perpetuity. With the vast amounts of data created by household names in internet services, and the security concerns of ensuring that data remains safe from all who would seek it, Tape Software supports their data storage needs and constantly improves their (and thereby your) experience.

Joining our team is an opportunity to synthesize the old and the new into something that will sustain our future. Merging tape backup and modern programming practices, we are architecting, building, and supporting products that will help ensure that data lasts more than a lifetime, and is stored and retrieved as efficiently and painlessly as possible.

Spectra was founded by engineers and continues to embrace an engineering-first culture. Our tape software team writes and maintains software in Golang, C++, C, JavaScript and more. We are a small team with many responsibilities and domains, and we never lack for interesting new things to work on: robotics control, low-level hardware communication, webservices, and UI/UX. Though we each have our specialties, we all are constantly learning new technologies and better ways to do the work that needs doing.

Our team comprises a diverse array of engineers; as we are a Boulder-based company, a lot of us spend our free time in the beautiful outdoors snowboarding and skiing, mountain biking, running, and more. Our offices are nestled near the mountains, and surrounded by five local breweries, offering opportunities for refreshment after work.

As an intern, we don't expect you to have deep knowledge of the industry. We do not require (but we do love) experience using Golang; learning the language can be done on the job if you have experience with other languages such as C++ or Java.

What we really need from you is good communication, intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving skills, as well as some combination of experience with Data Structures, Algorithms, and Software design methodologies.
