The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer intern to join the Target Identification Biological Rationale team, working on the engineering of an API that serves Machine Learning model predictions. You will be a part of a cross-functional team, working closely with Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, AI Scientists, and BIoinformaticians. You will learn about the design and development of high performance APIs, particularly for ML use-cases, and how to ensure their efficiency and scalability. You will also learn how to write effective tests and run them within a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pursue a research project to investigate new approaches in applying tech-driven methods for drug discovery and development.
  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team comprising specialists in informatics, engineering, AI, drug discovery and product for applied research.
  • You will discuss system design ideas with senior engineers in the team, on developing robust, reliable, and flexible systems.
  • Work with bioinformaticians to understand the existing functionality.
  • Implement features within the data pipeline to conform to a domain model.
  • Assist engineers in writing tests for data generation.

We're looking for someone with

  • Proficiency in Python
  • Familiarity with Python APIs (REST, gRPC) and API libraries (gRPC, Tornado, etc.)
  • Bonus points for familiarity with cloud services, particularly AWS, Docker and Kubernetes
Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with Python, and the desire to deepen your skills
  • Interest in learning about APIs, ML Ops, data engineering
  • Interest in scalable software, performance and resource measurement, non-functional testing, etc.
