Job Description

At Pair Eyewear, we’re building the largest global eyecare company in the world focused on bringing personalization to the end to end eyecare experience, starting with your glasses. We’ve developed the first personalized eyewear brand where glasses can be an extension of your personality, mood, and interests. With funding from leading venture capitalists in the consumer space, partnerships in the entertainment, sports, and fashion arenas, and a team of passionate individuals, we’re on a mission to completely revolutionize the eyewear industry. We’re excited that we already have the support of Good Morning America, The Today Show, Oprah Magazine, CNN, and Forbes helping us share our story.

Pair is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help scale and develop our order management system. This role will report to our Engineering Manager, Platform. You will help evolve the backend team to a more platform-centric unit. Your partners will be Product, the front end Site Experience team, Data, Design, and Operations.

What You’ll Do:
  • Establish best practices in a small, but quickly growing team
  • Mentor more junior team members through code reviews and pair coding
  • Assist team members through difficult tasks and provide context for questions surrounding requirements
  • Assist in breaking down projects into executable sprints and tasks
  • Focus on iterating on and optimizing our order management system, being mindful of performance and scalability
  • Engage in technical conversations across the team – architecture meetings, code reviews, etc.
  • Break down large engineering and business initiatives into smaller iterative tasks
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data teams to implement technical solutions that drive business value for all departments
Who You Are:
  • You have 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • You have experience mentoring junior engineers through PR reviews, pair programming, and thoughtful planning
  • You have experience leading initiatives from inception to release
  • You can communicate internally within the Engineering team (e.g., PRs, documentation) and externally with stakeholders (e.g., support channels, status meetings).
  • You are comfortable bridging the gap between junior engineers and the engineering manager by being an individual contributor that is deep in the code, but also has a high level view of how projects are progressing
  • You are comfortable working in a hybrid environment with remote-only peers
Need to Have:
  • Experience with Ruby (on Rails)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages
  • Experience with Model-View-Controller frameworks
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Experience working cross-functionally with other departments and stakeholders

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with AWS (ECS, S3)
  • Experience with Shopify Plus
  • Experience with project planning, scoping, and story sizing
Some Benefits and Perks of Working At Pair:
  • Health, vision and dental insurance
  • Generous vacation policies
  • Competitive salaries with equity opportunities
  • Retirement savings plan options
  • Free eyewear (plus discounts for family and friends)

At Pair, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. The pay range for this position is expected to be between $140,000 - $165,000 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.

Pair is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of actual or perceived age, ancestry, citizenship, color, disability, familial status, family responsibilities, gender identity/expression, genetic information, marital status, matriculation, national origin, personal appearance, political affiliation, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding), race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
