SUMMARY
The Software Development Engineer will perform software development activities through early-stage prototyping, implementation of product requirements, software architecture development and proof-of-concept verification and validation. The Software Development Engineer will bring a demonstrated track record of driving innovation leading to the introduction of new technologies in the marketplace. The Software Development Engineer will work independently or with the Research Technology and Innovation (RTI) team. The position will be based in the Smith and Nephew Robotics Center of Excellence in Pittsburgh.
Position Functions
- Design, Implement, Document and Test software for robotic surgery applications
- Design, Perform, and Document experiments for software and unit validation and verification
- Innovate to develop solutions that improve accuracy, usability, and performance of marketed software systems.
- Collaborate with peers and multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems.
- Maintain necessary health, safety, environmental (HSE) training and certifications.
- Maintain all necessary Quality trainings and job performance trainings
Education
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Master's Degree
Experience
- Three or more years' experience developing / working with large-scale C++ projects
- Understanding of 3D geometric concepts such as rotation matrices and coordinate transforms
- Demonstrated programming experience with the OpenGL graphics library
- Experience with user interface toolkits
- Experience programming for time-critical / real-time applications
- Expertise in applied Linear Algebra and Statistical concepts
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system
- Experience in computer vision / image processing algorithms
- Experience in design and implementation of FDA-compliant medical device software systems
- Experience using data-analysis tools such as Matlab
- Experience using and programming for position tracking systems
- Experience with 3D modeling or CAD software
Competencies
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with systems users and present results of tests and experiments in text, tabular and graphic form
