BILL is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer. If you are passionate about optimizing software, enjoy being hands on, excited to deliver new features to some of the biggest customers and enjoy technical challenges, this is the job for you! In this role, you’ll work on the new feature sets that drive our customer growth in the core product segment. You should challenge technical design decisions and approaches with highly talented product managers and staff engineers.

In this role you will:  

• Architect, design and implement product features using Kotlin / Springboot / AWS  and other modern technologies.
• Cross team collaboration  to create innovative solutions for our customers.
• Write unit tests and automation tests to ensure higher quality of code and the product.
• Come up with strategies and solutions to make the product robust, scalable, and performant.
• Be able to guide and mentor junior members of the team based on your strong technical expertise. 

We’d love to chat if you have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field (OR in lieu of degree, 10+ years of professional development experience)
• 7-10+ years of professional development experience
• Experience with/ deep understanding of the following technologies:
• Java / Kotlin
• Springboot / Spring
• SQL (Preferably Postgres)
• AWS
  
• Experience with/ deep understanding of the following concepts:
• Secure coding practices
• Distributed systems
• Assorted application and infrastructure patterns, architectures and strategies
• Event based communication
• REST API best practices
• Containerization and Container orchestration
• Scalable/sustainable data storage and databasing

• Passion for speed and optimization within the development process
• Empathetic approach to envisioning solutions
• A healthy respect for code reviews
• Experience mentoring junior developers
• Experience with agile development using Scrum/Kanban
• Experience with Git
• Experience with Jira or similar
