Software Engineer, Systems (Kustomer)

Software Engineer, Systems (Kustomer) Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing core, backend software components
• Designing appropriate solutions that meets needs at different levels of scale
• Identifying the bottlenecks and platform areas that struggle with performance during periods of high system load
• Collaborating on ideas and brainstorming through problems with the larger engineering team and/or other squads
• Proposing architectural and/or data access pattern changes that may be required to support scalability and reliability
• Breaking down large ambiguous problems into smaller projects that can be solved incrementally
• Planning technical growth strategy for various systems
• Developing tools and metrics to gain observability into growth rates towards limits and system performance

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of profiling and performance testing
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years experience programming in one of the following languages: JavaScript, C/C++, Java, Python, and/or PHP
• Experience with scalability patterns in various storage systems, databases, and search engines
• 6+ years of software engineering work experience, including hands-on experience implementing highly scalable and available systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in MongoDB or Elasticsearch, beyond ORM abstractions
• Experience optimizing and scaling various caching systems including Redis and memcached
• Experience working within AWS and Terraform
• Experience managing large, zero-downtime migrations in distributed systems
