Software Engineering Advisor - Remote

Position Summary:

Provides expert content/professional leadership on complex business analytics assignments/projects. Works in collaboration with business leaders to provide strategic partnership in analytics, identify and prioritize opportunities for impact, develop analytic solutions, leverage data science and technology capabilities, embed analytics-driven processes, operationalize and measure impact, to support decision making and execution based on data, facts and analytical findings across different parts of the organization. Exercises considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives. Uses deep professional knowledge and acumen to advise functional leaders. Focuses on providing thought leadership within business analytics but works on broader projects, which require understanding of wider business. Recognized internally as a subject matter expert.

This role to be part of a software development team enhancing and maintaining the pricing forecasting application that helps pricing analyst to prepare RFPs for existing clients and prospective clients. Application is using technology including Hadoop, SQL, SCALA, Spark and Teradata in the cloud to support our business finance organization.

In support of this we are looking for a skilled software engineering advisor who is motivated to be part of the team to modify and support a complex forecasting system. Responsibilities will include understanding existing very large database tables and data within those tables and working with the business to provide tools to be able to compare changes within the data when a new forecasting model is run. In addition, the data analyst will learn to think like the underwriters using the system, so that they help determine ways of improving the performance of the models being run on the data. Effectively communicate to individuals at all levels of the technical and business communities. Develops a strong understanding of the business needs, assumption data used for forecasting and the technology process that crunches the data.

Responsibilities:

• Understand the business needs of the underwriters who use the forecasting system.
• Understand the data currently in Teradata and Hadoop that is used to model future forecasts of claims and prices of drugs.
• Validate the results of forecasting runs based on the changes in assumption data and/or historical claims data and/or code enhancements.
• Help underwriters compare and contract data across different runs. Initially this might be a manual effort (SQL queries etc), but eventually you would provide requirements into how comparison tools should be developed to enable the users to view the changes easily.
• Help improve the process by looking at individual SCALA modules and stored procedures within the system to improve how these process the data.
• Help improve the end to end process by looking across all modules to determine if there are better ways of implementing the overall process
• Help improve the performance of the system by identifying long running queries and improving how the data is queried.

Qualifications:

Must be a current contractor with Cigna Healthcare, Evernorth Health Services, or one of their subsidiaries.

Technical knowledge or experience is a basic requirement for this kind of role. The software engineering advisor also needs to be tactful and diplomatic to maintain a good working relationship with other software developers, and across multiple teams. Includes:

• Bachelor's degree required in Data Analytics, or equivalent experience
• Analytical skills
• Decision making ability (Problem Solving, Priority Setting, Perseverance)
• Focused and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure and a changing environment

Technologies:

• Experience with Hadoop and Spark and the various tools supporting a Hadoop based system
• Understanding of the SCALA programming language
• Strong knowledge and experience in SQL
• Teradata experience including export/import/fastload, creating tables and views, tuning queries

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 100,500 - 167,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
