Department Summary:
MITRE's Software Engineering Innovation Center is one of the government's largest resources dedicated entirely to software engineering; delivering capabilities that modernize legacy systems, that prototype ways to address unmet mission needs, and that deliver advanced functionality pushing the boundaries what is possible. Roles and Responsibilities:
As an Associate Software Systems Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to leverage your expertise in any of these domains, and at this level you can expect to:
- Work on software design and development efforts on multiple teams
- Solve complex technical challenges, prototype/integrate software solutions, and perform technology assessments
- Interact with your teams and government sponsors through strong oral and written communications
- Learn from and help shape our center's engineering culture while keeping pace with current and emerging technologies that interest you
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or other related STEM major
- 0-1 years of demonstrated professional software development experience
- Knowledge of programming fundamentals (e.g., algorithms, data structures)
- Software development experience in current programming languages, tools, and methods
- Software lifecycle knowledge and experience in two or more phases of the software lifecycle (e.g., design, development, testing)
- Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues
- Able to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of, or experience with, multiple software lifecycle models (e.g., Agile, waterfall, iterative)
- Experience collaborating in a distributed team environment
- Knowledge of current web application frameworks, services, or standards across the full stack (e.g., JavaScript frameworks, web API design)
- Familiarity with operational Cyber concepts and objectives
- Usage of popular development tools and platforms (i.e., distributed version control tools, issue tracking tools, etc.)
- Knowledge of database technologies
- Familiarity with multiple operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Mac)
- Interest in or contributions to open-source projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
