The Opportunity

As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking a Software Engineering Intern who will collaborate with cross-functional teams of Engineers and gain hands-on experience designing and developing software to support the development of our next generation of instruments. This position is onsite in Rochester, NY, and will be part of the 2023 Summer Internship Program.

The role includes:

  • Work on a professional software development program on medical diagnostics devices.
  • The opportunity to gain experience with modern software development tools including IDEs, static analysis, continuous integration, code review tools and real-time operating systems.
  • Reviewing output of static analysis tools and reports to analyze source code and code improvements.
  • Review of field data for insights into source code operation and make improvements.

The Responsibilities

  • Analyzing static code analysis output and making improvements accordingly.
  • Improving different code areas by taking advantage of the latest features in the new language compilers (e.g., C++17).
  • Analyze field data and make improvements/resolutions accordingly.

The Job Deliverables

  • Improvements in the output of static code analysis.
  • Improvements or solutions resulting from field data analysis.
  • Analysis reports of the findings, solutions, and/or improvements in the different areas of the code.
  • A poster and PowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.

The Individual

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree or graduate program majoring in Computer Science and/or Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum Year in school: Sophomore or beyond
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming (C/C++).
  • Familiarity with bash/shell scripting language.
  • Familiarity with a software version control systems (Git, SVN, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Ability to read, follow, and modify uncommented code with a drive to create a better design.
  • Good communication and documentation skills, including generation of design considerations and tradeoffs.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Interns should be prepared to fully commit to the start and end dates proposed
  • Interns are expected to provide their housing, travel, and any other requirements necessary for their participation in this program

Preferred:

  • Experience running virtual machines with VirtualBox and VMWare.
  • Knowledge of static code analysis tools such as Klocwork.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration methods and tools (Jenkins) preferred.
  • Knowledge of *Nix based (preferably QNX and Linux) programming tools, including gcc, gdb and make.

The pay range for the Internship Program is between $16/hr to $30/hr, The pay rate will be determined by the year in school, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate. Benefits are not included for this position.
