Software Engineering Manager

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join the MyFitnessPal Engineering team. Our users rely on MyFitnessPal to power their health and fitness journeys every day. As a member of our MyFitnessPal Engineering team you’ll have the opportunity to positively impact those users by leading a cross-functional team of Android Backend iOS and Web engineers for a Product Squad. The team focuses on outcomes over outputs prioritizing work based on MFP’s product vision and strategy using data and experimentation.

Essential Duties:

As the Engineering Manager you are first and foremost responsible for the team and their ability to support the objectives of the product squad. You will ensure engineers are working closely with Product and Design in discovery and the work is effectively transitioned through delivery keeping an eye on the quality and maintainability of codebases.

You will take a hands-on approach to delivery management ensuring the backlog is healthy maintenance and tech debt work are scheduled and work is broken down appropriately in a timely manner.

You will run agile sprint ceremonies and coach others to do the same. Everyone on the team should feel engaged in the process and empowered to suggest necessary work and ways to improve. Your success is dependent on the success of your team and you’re committed to coach and support a team of skilled engineers.

To effectively coach you must care about each team member individually and aid them in both their personal growth and their ability to work as a team. You will coach engineers using weekly one-on-ones building trust and delivering feedback with kind candor. You must lead by example embodying our three engineering values:

What you’ll be doing:

• Build a world-class engineering team who works closely with product and design to solve user problems aligned with MyFitnessPal’s product vision and strategy

• Manage the transition of engineering work seamlessly from discovery through delivery

• Facilitate agile ceremonies and adopt best practices in delivery management

• Ensure the engineering team is maintaining a high-quality product that supports rapid prototyping and testing

• Promote the growth of teammates through mentorship and coaching

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Have experience leading an engineering team in the Product Team model as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead

• Are experienced leading teams using Agile principles and Scrum methodologies

• Enjoy working with Product and Engineering teams to plan execute and deliver projects

• Help other teammates grow through mentorship and coaching

• Have knowledge of common patterns and software engineering and best practices

• Have experience working with high traffic scalable mobile applications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field or equivalent real-world experience

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $157000 - $175000 . Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills qualifications and experience.
