Software Engineering Manager

As a Software Engineering Manager on the Compute and Software R&D team, you will play a vital part in building the technologies that will power our next generation of robot products. In this role you will lead a group of engineers working broadly across our company's software stack to identify and deliver "step changes" to the performance and capabilities of our machines. You'll help define the direction, organize the efforts, and grow both junior and senior engineers to deliver on ambitious multi-year efforts. Explore technologies in both hardware and software -- new compute, coprocessors, GPUs, sensing, and communication, along with algorithms and software tools.

How you will make an impact:

• Lead and manage a team of software engineers. Help these engineers grow, communicate, organize, and achieve remarkable results.
• Participate technically in software design and architecture. Be hands on with the work of the team.
• Work with leadership and with your team to define areas to pursue, identify and de-risk promising technologies, and set the vision for delivering key capabilities in our next generation of products.
• Collaborate with product teams to understand and anticipate their needs, align viewpoints, and deliver our work into production.
• Shift quickly between short and long-term thinking. Move from rapid prototyping, de-risking, and ideas to complex, production-ready software engineering at company-wide scale as needs require.

We are looking for:

• 8+ years of software experience, ideally spanning both production and innovation environments.
• 4+ years of technical management experience with the ability to lead both junior and highly-experienced engineers.
• Our work involves bringing teams together and creating a vision of the future. The ideal candidate is an excellent written and verbal communicator and skilled in building interpersonal relationships with other leaders.
• Deep technical knowledge in one or more areas such as high performance computing, real-time software, systems software, and communications.
• Interest or experience with computer electronics, robotics, computer vision, and related algorithms is a plus. Comfort in a modern software engineering organization is also highly desirable.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science OR equivalent degree/experience.
