Make a difference for hundreds of thousands of business owners, and millions of employees, by empowering a team of talented engineers building the software that helps Gusto customers remain compliant with constantly changing tax agency requirements. As a People Empowerer for the Tax Setup team in Payroll Services, you’ll directly empower 7 engineers, supporting them in their continued growth and success. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of Product, Design, and Data partners, as well as embedded Tax Filing Compliance Specialists to help our customers navigate highly complex tax agency requirements with clarity, and without unnecessary stress.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

• Conduct regular 1:1s with your team members to support their continued growth and learning
• Collaborate with the extended team during daily “Team Times” where we plan, pair program, and laugh together
• Partner with Compliance, Customer Success, and others within and outside your team
• Model Gusto’s values in your immediate team, and as part of the broader community of Gusto leaders
• Provide and receive mentorship and peer support

Here’s what we're looking for:

• At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience
• At least 2 years leading engineering teams
• Comfort navigating a complex and ambiguous problem space, and asking for help and clarification when needed
• A desire to grow and learn on the job
• A focus on building with quality and rigor, while keeping in mind the impact our code has on our customer’s financial well-being

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $170,000/yr to $218,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $206,000/yr to $264,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
