Software Engineering Manager – UI and Web Services

As we continue to innovate and expand, we are seeking a skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software developers working on Java GUIs and to establish a new team focused on web service technology.

Job Summary:

The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team of software developers specializing in Java GUI development while also establishing and overseeing a new team focused on web service technology. In this role, you will drive the design, development, and delivery of software solutions that power our industry-leading, high-performance, ultra-low latency electronic trading and capital market infrastructure services. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in Java development, GUI design, and web service technology.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Management

• Lead and manage a team of software developers working on Java GUI development, providing guidance, mentorship, and support throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Establish a new team focused on web service technology, hiring and onboarding talented individuals and building a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
• Set performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and regularly provide candid and constructive feedback to team members.
• Collaborate with leadership to define project priorities, allocate resources, and manage workloads effectively across both teams.

Java GUI Development:

• Oversee the design and development of Java-based GUIs to deliver intuitive and high-performance user interfaces.
• Participate in UX/UI design to translate design specifications into functional GUI components.
• Review and provide technical guidance to developers on GUI architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
• Ensure adherence to software development methodologies, best practices, quality standards, and performance optimization techniques.

Web Service Technology

• Establish a new team focused on web service technology, hiring and developing talented individuals with expertise in this area.
• Drive the design, development, and implementation of scalable and performant web services to enhance our trading and infrastructure solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate web services with GUIs and other software components.
• Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of web services, addressing any potential bottlenecks or vulnerabilities.

 Technical Leadership and Collaboration:

• Provide technical leadership and expertise to both teams, staying updated on industry trends and best practices in Java GUI development and web service technology.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, to define requirements, plan releases, and resolve technical challenges.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance software development processes and performance across both teams.

Project Management:

• Manage the software development lifecycle, ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet client requirements.
• Define project timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
• Establish a culture of accountability, track project progress, communicate status updates, and ensure timely delivery of infrastructure initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with established engineering best practices: coding standards, documentation requirements, testing, and version control practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager or in a similar leadership role.
• Strong expertise in Java development, with hands-on experience in GUI development.
• Demonstrated experience with web service technology, including designing, developing, and deploying scalable and secure web services.
• Solid understanding of software development methodologies and version control systems.
• Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of software developers.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering high-quality software solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Java Swing is a plus.
