NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory continues to sustain software programming and integration of Critical Systems for continued mission and added capabilities. As such, increased development of technology and consumerism necessitate enhanced multi-level processes, software maintenance/programming and systems integration methods under the NBL Operations Contract (NOC).
Multiple functions throughout the facility need specifically tailored software to program data acquisition and control systems for efficient and effective operations of Critical Systems ranging from robotics (hydraulic and electrical), test systems to Life Support Systems. The software programming and Integration Engineer will improve quality of operations through situational awareness of stakeholders' technical needs and establish alignment systems, information, programming and desired results. Example of one such integration is the collection of data from several Critical Systems and packaging it into one collaborative operations data display and collection system consolidating the context of training and testing data into an exploratory platform to relive and analyze each moment. Other future software programing product integrations consist of replacement of the existing Life Support Systems Allen Bradley SLC500 small logic controllers running Rockwell RSView32 with other versions of equivalent replacement integrated test systems like RS Logix, National Instruments and C++ programming types of custom control systems for the various robotic arms.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES;
*Provides software development project engineering support to the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) Operations personnel and activities associated with the Sonny Carter Training Facility (SCTF) Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)/Johnson Space Center (JSC).
* Supervises other engineers and technicians that might be assigned to them on projects that they have been deemed the lead.
*Develop, implement, and test software integration strategies for multi-level Critical Systems processes within the NBL, i.e. robotics (hydraulic and electrical), test systems to Life Support Systems, etc.
*Manage and monitor finalized integrated Critical Systems, as well as resolve any issues that arise.
*Assess recommend software, equipment, or technologies to be used during the building phase of integration.
*Develop workplans, reference manuals, or guides to give clarity on each system and/or sub-systems to be used in the process.
*Support pre-integrated software and programs throughout the facility.
Collect and analyze data to define system requirements.
*Regularly collaborate with engineering, Critical Systems Maintenance, NBL Operations, management, administration, safety, IT, and procurement to ensure new integrations are effectivity communicated facility-wide
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
*BS Computer Science plus a minimum of 5 years applicable programming and systems integration experience or equivalent.
*NASA, aerospace, robotics, or trainer design experience a plus. Must be familiar with Kinematics (forward and inverse) and dynamics of mechanism, and is to have practical knowledge in electronic devices and computer programming consisting of Rockwell RSView32 and Allen Bradley RS500 and RSLogic Programming, C++ programming, National Instrument programming, Instrumentation interfacing driver development, Open Automations Software Platform, Database Design & Development (learned Oracle Data Modeler), Web Development (various coding with C++, Visual Basic, Java, CSS, and Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs)). Experience using AutoCad, Pro/Engineering and ANSYS software preferred.
* Good verbal and written communication skills required along with the ability to effectively interface with all levels of employee groups, various customers and vendors.
* Proficient at MS Office Suite and other computer office work applications. SCUBA diving skills are desired.
*Requires theoretical knowledge typically obtained through University Degree. Limited to some knowledge of RTX organization.
*Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience. Engineering/Other Technical Positions:
*Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
