Software Test Engineer II

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Software Test Engineer II to join our team in Houston, Texas

Job Summary: The Software Test Engineer II will assist in the development and implementation of thorough, clear, concise test plans/procedures, taking into consideration the requirements and testing objectives, for various customer-witnessed demonstrations including System Integration Tests and System Acceptance Tests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Work with managers, developers, testers, and customers/users throughout all phases of development.
• Fully understand the functionality and objectives of the target software.
• Create test conditions and test cases based on project requirements and design documentation.
• Conduct manual system testing according to test cases/plans and procedures.
• Write hardware and software defects.
• Assist in the development and implementation of thorough, clear, concise test plans/procedures, taking into consideration the requirements and testing objectives, for various customer-witnessed demonstrations including System Integration Tests and System Acceptance Tests.
• Participate in customer-witnessed demonstrations.

Education: Associates degree in computer related or other technical field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical hardware/software requirements and design documents.
• Strong experience in generating test cases against business and functional requirements and design documents.
• Ability to identify and write test cases and test documentation.
• Ability to create and subsequently execute a logical sequence of test steps to validate hardware/software system functionality.
• Extensive experience in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using automated tools for software testing, HP Quality Center, and defect reporting (Serena Dimensions).
• Strong experience with SQL database queries
• Judgment skills are needed to assess high-risk areas of an application on which to focus testing efforts when time is limited.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal, written and technical skills. Capacity to work independently with minimum supervision, retaining flexibility in working methods and schedules. Must be a self-starter and have the ability to drive results.
• Ability to balance quality and attention to detail with an aggressive project delivery schedule.
• An ability to communicate with both technical (developers) and non-technical (customers, management) people.
