Our Mechatronics Global Engineering Group is looking for Software Engineering and Computer Engineering Students to provide support to our Electronics - Hardware/Software Development / Validation Team. Generally, completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of senior engineering personnel and/or engineering management. This is a part-time student position; we will work around your school schedule.
Key Responsibilities
  • Generally assigned to increasingly complex components, sub-assemblies and systems, e.g. may be responsible for changes based on new requirements or may contribute to the application of new technologies.
  • Reviews engineering content for the following deliverables as outlined in Magna Closures Software Development Lifecycle Process: Product Specification, Software Requirement Specification, Software Development Plan, Software Design and Implementation document, Software Verification and Validation documents, DVP&R's, 8D's, GD&T, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders.
  • Develop and test electrical hardware consistent with functional and performance requirements. Creation of schematic, E-BoM, PCB Layout, and support DFM reviews. Design analysis such as DFMEA, DRBFM, WCCA.
  • Embedded SW design and development consistent with ASPICE process. Development of driver/application SW layers consistent with all levels SW Architectural design.
  • Writes/compiles Software Testing Plan Designs/programs and implements automatic test vectors based on requirements.
  • Execution of manual and automatic test vectors based on the Test Plans.
  • Generates/reviews/publishes test results. Works to resolve Software Test issues and validates countermeasures.
  • Consults and collaborates with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements in order to create/support robust design methods to eliminate prior campaign failure modes.
  • Conducts effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with minimal guidance from engineering management and senior engineering personnel as necessary.
  • Supports CAE activities (hand calculations/first order analysis). Fundamental understanding and ability to apply/utilize basic math based tools, software simulation such as Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow and embedded development tools.
  • Reviews, approves, completes, and submits required change notices to ensure software quality meet design inputs.
  • Independently prioritizes the completion of tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to Customer requirements and program deliverables. Contributes to the development of project timing.
  • Understands and follows existing policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Utilize Polarion to complete assignments on time and archive work output documentation.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Pursing Bachelor's degree in Software/Computer Engineering from accredited university.
  • Less than 1 year of work-related experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical hardware and electrical circuit theory as it relates to embedded controls for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Ability to apply academic and other engineering principles in the development of automotive components and utilize math-based tools.
  • Automotive Experience desired.
  • Understand hardware embedded environments present on NXP microprocessors.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Bus Communication software such as CAN, LAN, LIN.
  • Understanding of the Vehicle and Component Level Diagnostics protocols.
  • Expert level C, Assembly language, Labview, Lab windows or other software design/test tools.
  • Understanding of standard software process and industry requirements IEEE, CMMI, MISRA, ASPICE.
