The IT Technical Planning & Architecture team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is seeking a skilled Solutions Architect with a focus on data technologies in cloud and hybrid environments. This person should thrive in a collaborative environment, with excellent teamwork and communication skills supporting by deep technology expertise. This role is focused on architecting and guiding the implementation of a suite of data and information products that are used internally by our different business areas in the Chicago Fed and Federal Reserve System. As part of their responsibility, this person will work with Product Managers and Enterprise Architects to establish the roadmap for our data solutions. Further, this role will collaborate with other architects and specialists across infrastructure, security services, and applications.
The "Solutions Architect - Data" will be developing systems for managing and discovering information from data, aligning solutions around data storage, data movement, Business Intelligence, and analytics. Our data systems will reside across a hybrid environment, e.g. on premises and cloud, with the latter being a key part of our target state, so preference is for someone with experience with managing data in an AWS and SaaS-based cloud environment. The level of work required is advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains solution/product architectures for specific business areas in compliance with applicable enterprise architectures
- Provides oversight on the architecture and design of specific solutions within a line of business
- Participates in project and architecture reviews to evaluate and ensure that the design being applied meets policies, principles, standards, and business/technology needs and roadmaps.
- Reviews and aligns product choices to ensure that IT standards, service quality and availability, and cost efficiency are met.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technology trends and utilizes this knowledge to design innovative solutions that support and drive business objectives and technology roadmaps.
- Contributes to the definition and analysis of requirements for the enterprise and applying available and emerging technologies to support tactical and strategic business objectives.
- Evaluates products and technologies and their alternatives for use in proposed solutions.
- Builds and maintains a strong understanding of the enterprise's IT systems and architectures.
- Interfaces with stakeholders across the enterprise to evaluate new products/technologies and possible implementation of business enabling and cost effective solutions.
- Influences and communicates with all levels of the FRS on business, information, and complex technical subjects and roadmaps.
- Actively participates in FRS System level or cross business workgroups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Background
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Architecture, Information Systems or other related fields or equivalent work experience
- Seven or more total years of experience in multiple Information technology disciplines
- Three or more years of experience in solution/systems architecture
- Three or more years of experience with designing and building data-centric solutions in cloud and hybrid environments
- Broad knowledge of Information Technology Systems, with strong understanding of the relationship between business processes, applications, databases, operating systems, processing platforms, storage platforms, security systems and networks.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with data storage, data lakes and warehousing technologies, including relational and non-relational databases, object storage, and file storage.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with ETL, data movement and data migration technologies and with data integrations and transfer between on-prem and cloud environments.
- Experience working with tools, vendor products and open source frameworks for data management, business intelligence, and descriptive and predictive analytics
- Ability to clearly explain options and alternatives, and rationale for associated recommendations
- Ability to efficiently and concisely illustrate and communicate concepts in words and diagrams.
- Ability to abstract core elements or components of solution or business need and propose common/re-usable services.
- Basic business analysis skills such as being able to create technical specifications from imprecise business requirements.
- Experience with Agile Development Methodologies and Practices, such as Scaled Agile Framework, a plus.
- Experience designing and building solutions using modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools and automation practices including infrastructure-as-code, a plus.
- Prior experience with banking/financial services/government systems, a plus.

Requirements
