About this role
Ably works closely with its customers to ensure they succeed in delivering realtime applications at scale using the Ably platform APIs. We are expanding our Customer Success team with the hiring of a dedicated Solution Architect to look after our fast growing enterprise customer base. This will involve close engagement on a regular basis to ensure they are receiving the service they require - both technologically and with respect to technical support. Our Solution Architect will be at the forefront of any technical architecture decisions customers may have, integration issues and will support customers with their new capability rollouts.
Ably is looking for a motivated Post-Sales Solution Architect who has a desire to work in the cloud infrastructure industry, where you will build your technical skills as well as learn from top subject matter experts.
Day to day, you will
  • Translate customer business needs into technical needs and interpret advanced technology issues in an accessible language.
  • Clearly understand the technical architectures of our customers so as to communicate it back to the business.
  • Work with the customers to help plan, scope, develop and deploy Ably's solutions.
  • Take a leadership role in ensuring successful customer implementations of Ably solutions.
  • Work in partnership with Customer Success Managers to advise customers technically on best practice and how to optimize integrations with Ably.
  • Present Ably's product roadmap or similar overviews of our products and features to customers.
  • Gather feedback from clients to drive product innovation and improvement, and advocate for client requests with internal teams.
  • Build & maintain a deep understanding of the Ably product and related technologies to lead value-adding conversations with customers and understand their needs.
  • Understand and use product usage reporting and monitoring tools.
  • Maintain close alignment with Sales, Product and Engineering.

We'd love to hear from you if
  • You have knowledge of cloud computing, serverless, event-driven architectures & technologies, pub/sub, distributed systems, realtime protocols such as WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, or MQTT
  • Previous experience of architecting complex distributed solutions at enterprise scale and a thorough knowledge of cutting edge data infrastructure solutions.
  • You are experienced in dealing with customers, through engagingly presenting to enterprise architects and C-level executives alike and deftly addressing their questions.
  • You are an analytical thinker with the ability to translate complex business needs into feasible, valuable solutions.
  • You are willing to work in a fast-paced start-up environment where a high level of flexibility is required.
  • You have great communication skills
  • Communication and relationship building skills to drive internal development projects.
  • Project management skills,ability to balance competing priorities, as well as expectation setting and delivering against those expectations.

It would be nice, but not essential if you have
  • Kafka, AWS Websockets, Socket.io or similar event based systems, especially these systems at the Edge.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale systems
  • An affinity with opensource.
