Solutions Engineer, Embedded Payroll
Job Description
About Gusto
Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses take care of their teams. On top of full-service payroll, Gusto offers health insurance, 401(k)s, expert HR, and team management tools. Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 100,000 businesses nationwide.
Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.
Gusto Embedded is the newest standalone business unit at Gusto and our first product is Gusto Embedded Payroll. Our vision is to enable any third party developer to build the best payroll product for their end customers. Gusto Embedded Payroll will power our strategic partners' payroll offering through APIs, unlocking market share and ushering in the future of the people platform. You can read more about why our Founders are so excited for and committed to Gusto Embedded Payroll in this recent blog post by Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Tomer London.
As a Solutions Engineer, you will work closely with a team of Account Executives to support our Partners in their evaluation of our payroll product. Your primary responsibility will be serving as the product specialist for Gusto’s APIs and an advisor to our partners on how to build a high quality payroll product, while partnering with our sales team to drive new revenue.
Gusto Embedded Payroll is the newest major offering from Gusto and we operate like a startup—candidates who prefer a rapid pace of change and a nascent, fast moving market landscape will feel at home.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Sell the value of our embedded payroll product and advise our Embedded Payroll Partners’ product teams on how to use Gusto’s APIs and the best ways to build out their payroll product(s).
- Work closely with your Account Executives to review partner requirements and ensure Gusto Payroll API’s are positioned in the best light to support Partner needs.
- Inspire our partners. Gusto’s API products are building blocks. Demo our solutions through pre-built apps, flows or purely the api through tools like Postman.
- Assist our Embedded Payroll Partners in POC’s and trials. Ensure they are able to make API calls, onboard companies, run payroll - whether from postman or a script.
- Go deep in Gusto’s product security, and help our customers understand the value our 10+ years of payroll experience can bring to them.
- Build the tool(s) and systems to scale the Solutions Engineering function. This is a relatively new team and you will have direct responsibility in building the foundation for the team and driving its success.
- Iterate on the technical sales processes and product feedback model. We’re moving fast and need to learn and adapt quickly.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to improve the way we engage with partners and support them to achieve our targets. You will commonly work with teams including sales, marketing, implementation, solutions architecture, product and more.
- Become an expert in Gusto’s broad suite of products and services, identify product gaps with partners and drive feedback with our Product teams to evolve our product roadmap.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 4-6 years of experience, with 3+ years in a client-facing role (experience in a similar role is a strong plus).
- Relationship builder. Knows how to work through problems with internal and external teams
- Structured thinker. Strong writer, presenter, and executer who thrives in x-fnl collaboration
- Organized, with immaculate attention to detail
- Clear and precise communication skills, verbal and written
- Creative and enthusiastic problem solver
- Demonstrated track record of selling complex solutions for enterprise-level customers that are adopted and deployed successfully
- Technically adept in APIs. Experience working with RESTful APIs that simplify complex domain problems for other developers.
Nice to haves:
- 2+ years of experience in a similar role (solutions consultant, sales engineering, developer advocate/support) and a broad technical background across different industries
- Experience tinkering or developing in one or more languages
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $130,000 to $160,000 OTE per year in Denver & most remote locations, and $157,500 to $194,500 OTE per year for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
