Job Summary
The Command, Control, and Communications (C3) Engineering & Operations Department (CEOD) staff provide operationally-focused engineering solutions for space enterprise C3 systems, missions, and processes in support of our IC, DoD, and civilian customers. We provide software development expertise; influence future electronic warfare (EW) and space data transport (SDT) investments; provide operational C2 expertise for future systems; deliver systems engineering support for missions and C2 system development; support ground system and architecture improvement efforts; lead system and software test planning and execution campaigns; and, provide technical and operational experience with fielded space systems and real missions. This position will be onsite in Colorado Springs, CO with some possibility for a hybrid work model.
What You'll Be Doing
- Be a part of the inception of the U.S. Space Force (USSF) becoming a digital force. Bring an innovative and dedicated mindset to create modeling and simulation (M&S) capabilities and use the benefits of Digital Engineering (DE) to help the USSF (and other National Security Space customers) enter the digital age.
- Support a wide variety of space program customers as both a developer (algorithm and software development) and an analyst (setting up and performing batch simulation runs, custom post processing, drawing trends and insights) for M&S in the areas of:
- Enterprise (cross-mission),
- Multi-domain military operations (air and sea domains),
- Resiliency (Counterspace, architecture robustness/redundancy), and
- Space performance (Space Domain Awareness, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Special Comms, EW, SDT/SATCOM, Directed Energy, Rendezvous and Proximity Operations).
- Work in/across teams on innovative ways to apply the latest computing technology (Distributed Frameworks, Cloud, AI/ML, DE/Model Based Systems Engineering, DevSecOps) to M&S
- Conduct link budget analyses for a wide range of frequency bands, satellites, and ground systems
- Influence the force design of future ground, space, and C2 architectures for IC and DoD customers
- Provide EW and SATCOM technical and operational expertise
- Exercise continuous learning in new areas of innovative next generation space programs, missions, and analysis tools to analyze complex enterprise-level problems
- Work across space mission and program boundaries to identify common program challenges and risks, provide enterprise recommendations, and lead issues to closure
- Work closely and effectively with external partners in integrated product teams that include government, industry, and FFRDC members
- Communicate effectively with customers and management through timely reporting of technical issues, analysis reports, and recommendations
This position can be filled as either a Member of the Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist, depending on experience.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from a recognized institution in engineering, mathematics, or technical science
- Three or more years of experience in software engineering, software design, and architecting
- Comfortable working with and following a large code base in C/C++
- Experience with scripting languages such as MATLAB and Python
- Experience in distributed frameworks, API development, and cloud technologies
- Experience in algorithm development, modeling, and simulation
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team and manage multiple simultaneous tasks
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Active Secret security clearance; eligible for Top Secret SCI and SAP/SAR clearances
How You Can Stand Out
We would be impressed if you have any of these experiences:
- Advanced degree from a recognized institution in an applicable STEM concentration
- Three or more years of operational experience in satellite operations, EW, or SATCOM
- Experience in orbital mechanics, geolocation techniques, EW, or SATCOM and familiarity with associated M&S tools
- Knowledge of military and commercial SATCOM missions, system designs, and operations
- Experience operating in an Agile, DevSecOps, or other advanced software development environment
- Experience in tracking and estimation theory
- Experience in practicing professional software development processes
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, self-motivation, and willingness to take initiative
- High level of creativity, initiative, and innovation
- Experience with US Space Force, SSC, and NRO customers
- Military operations experience
- Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI access and/or SAP/SAR access
We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
