Job Description
The Spanish Language lead is the senior linguistic team member who is responsible for verifying the quality of the translation for a particular language. This person has strong editing skills and domain knowledge, and has a clear picture of the translation goals and requirements. Linguistic leads provide guidance, answer questions, and help the project manager keep things on track.
Responsibilities:
- Final quality assurance checks and copy editing of the Spanish translation before delivery.
- Maintain the quality of our product by periodically auditing our content to determine improvements that can be applied to our next version release.
- Help draft support documentation such as style guides and glossaries for the rest of the team to reference.
- Provide performance feedback to the Localization Manager regarding the linguistic quality output of the team at large.
- Translate/Proofread content where back-up coverage is needed
- Assist the Localization Manager in directing linguists on projects with language-specific guidelines and feedback.
- Assess client feedback related to our Spanish products and direct remediation where appropriate.
- Work directly with the Localization Manager to develop a schedule for projects and assure that adequate communication lines are used throughout the process.
- Assist the Localization Manager in maintaining the Glossaries and Style Guide
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in the translation industry i.e translation, editing, and proofreading, including MTPE
- Native or bilingual (Federal ILR Level 5) proficiency of the Spanish language, with a strong command of its nuanced rules in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Proficient in US English
- Understanding of different Spanish dialects and experience using editorial judgment for balanced usage
- 3+ years of copy editing experience in Spanish
- Experience in developing glossaries, style guides, linguistic support materials, etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in performing linguistic research
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workloads.
- Attention to detail
- Experience in translating educational materials
- Proficiency in basic math vocabulary in both Spanish and English
