Spanish Language Translator and Writer (Contract)

Over 5 million people use our app Providers, previously called Fresh EBT, to manage the benefits that keep their family well-fed and healthy, stay up to date on critical government programs, save money and earn income. Propel’s growing content design team is hiring a part-time Spanish-language translator and writer. This role is a contract role for 20 hours a week, with the possibility of conversion into a full-time position. In this position you will make an immediate and lasting impact on Providers’ 400,000+ Spanish-language users by translating content for the app across a variety of topic areas, writing original content in Spanish, and creating processes that ensure improved language access. This role is an excellent fit for an individual who is a native Spanish speaker, reads and writes English and Spanish fluently, and is passionate about accessible bilingual content.

What you’ll do:

• Work across teams to complete translation requests and original Spanish language copywriting, for both large projects and small ad-hoc needs
• Create and own the processes for scoping, standardizing, and managing these requests across teams
• Develop processes to QA translations, and processes to regularly QA Spanish language content across the Providers app
• Define and document Spanish language content and style guidelines, with input from other bilingual team members who want to contribute, and work to uphold them across the Providers app
• Scope larger document translations (i.e., our legal documents) and work with Propel’s bilingual content designer to manage this work

What you have:

• Spanish is your native language, and you speak, read and write Spanish and English fluently.
• Translation: You have 3+ years of experience translating content from English to Spanish, including short pieces of content in context and longer copy. You have experience translating for a diversity of Spanish speakers throughout Latin America. 
• Writing: You have 3+ years of experience writing clear, plain-language content for the web in English and Spanish.
• Builder: You have experience building processes from scratch in a startup / scrappy environment with imperfect information.
• Collaboration and project management: You know how to work with different disciplines and stakeholders to get a project done effectively and efficiently. 
• Comfort with the following tools or willingness to quickly learn: Google Suite, Figma, Slack.

Compensation: $80 - 100 per hour depending on experience

Timeframe: This is a 6 month contract position, with the potential to turn full time.
