Schedule Details: Four 10 hour shifts. Start time can range from 07:00am-11:00am. Call is required (and must be able to arrive within 30 minutes of being called, no out of towners) Holidays and weekends are off but some call is required for both.
Preferred qualifications: 1 year in diagnostic radiology preferred. Do not need to be trained in IR. Will train here
Specific job details: A special procedures technologist works in Interventional Radiology as well as the OR vascular hybrid rooms. They are responsible for operation of the radiographic equipment and in IR, scrubbing in cases, prepping patients as well as circulating in the room. We need someone who is flexible and is excited to learn new skills and help where needed. Vascular Interventional registry must be obtained after 18 months in IR.
Soft Skills: IR is a small team and it is essential that a candidate have good communication skills and a strong teamwork approach. Flexibility is a must as we look to expand our services.
Unit/ Position/ Team: We typically care for only one patient at a time. This is a wonderful opportunity for career growth for a radiologic technologist not currently trained in Interventional Radiology, and can offer new learning experiences for a technologist that is trained as we are one of the busiest IR departments in Southern Arizona, with a wide range of patient types and cutting edge procedures.
Additional Details-
Day in the life: A special procedure technologist will scrub several cases throughout the day. They also assist physicians and fellow staff with radiographic, ultrasound and other IR related equipment. They assist with opening and managing supplies and ensuring that documentation is complete. Since we use Fluoroscopy, a lead apron is required to be worn for most of the day. Surgical Attire policy, and sterile procedures are followed in IR.
Equipment used: We have 3 IR suites and 2 smaller IR rooms that are equipped with portable C-arms for lower acuity cases. Ultrasound is commonly used in IR. The OR has two hybrid rooms that are similar to IR suites.
Number of staff working alongside prospective team member: A typical IR team consists of One attending physician, One resident or fellow physician, one RN and 1-2 special procedure technologists.
Number of patients seen daily: Can vary from 2-10 depends on cases.
Types of procedures ect: Our cases range from elective outpatient procedures to emergent strokes or traumas.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs prescribed specialized radiographic procedures as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs radiographic diagnostic/interventional special procedures by following and verifying referring providers' orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
3. Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
4. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable in accordance with established policies. Demonstrates competence in the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and other approved medications.
5. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety policies.
6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
8. Independently performs prescribed radiographic procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Requires national certification American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable. Advance certification by accrediting body in specialty required if applicable within 18 months of hire (and/or equivalent clinical experience for Cath Lab only). BLS certification.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with 2 years of experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.
