Specialist I, EHS
Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
This position will provide specialized support to the Environmental, Health and Safety Department. Working closely with the EHS team and site operations, the position will primarily be responsible for maintaining the Cherry Hill and Dayton waste management programs including hazardous, regulated medical, pharmaceutical, and other specialized wastes. Additionally, the position will be expected to provide support as needed to all site EHS programs as needed.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITES
- Metric Tracking - Will be responsible for various EHS metric tracking and trending including, but not limited to, waste and sustainability data. Will obtain all data as needed from company users/vendors/contractors to ensure accurate information. Will recommend areas for potential cost savings/ process improvements.
- Vendor Management - Coordinate and monitor external contractors involved with the removal of regulated and specialized waste streams. This will include the current and any future Recycling Opportunities within Cherry Hill operations. Create and review established waste streams and track/archive waste manifests.
- EHS Inspections and PMs - Plan and execute all required Safety Preventative Maintenance and Inspections including Fire Extinguishers, Safety Showers / Eyewash, Monthly Inspections of Haz Waste Storage and Stormwater Programs.
- Waste Program Management - Manage the regulated and specialized waste program at the Cherry Hill and Dayton facilities. Ensure all plant personnel are supported and all required satellite waste pickups are completed efficiently. Work with warehouse personnel on the tracking and removal of specialized rejected products and materials.
- Spill Response - Act as primary spill response during normal operating hours. Ensure all spill supplies are inventoried and maintained. Assist with the training of off shift support
- personnel.
- All other EHS projects/responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
- Associate Degree or equivalent amount of work experience / certifications
- Powered Industrial Truck / Equipment Certification
- Additionally, must possess or obtain RCRA certification and DOT certification within 60 days of employment.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Engineering, Environmental, Health, Safety).
EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
- 1 - 2 years' experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety role.
- 1 - 2 years' experience in Hazardous / Regulated Waste Management.
Preferred:
- 3-5 years' experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety role
- 3-5 years' experience in Hazardous / Regulated Waste Management.
SKILLS
- Experience using forklift, powered pallet jack in an industrial / warehouse setting.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Good interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be physically capable of performing inspections, responding to first aid / spill calls, moving/emptying filled waste containers (up to 40lbs), walking 10,000 or more steps per day.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with software related to word processing, spreadsheet, and database software programs required (Word, Excel, ISOtrain and Cority).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with strong time management and organizational skills.
