Nationwide's Personal Computing Services organization is seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer to be a member of our team to manage our departmental data and collaborate with peer teams to maximize the adoption and consistency of our data services. We reside within the I&O Digital Workplace Technology area and provide automation services and support to approximately 33,000 endpoint computing devices (physical and virtual) used by Nationwide associates and contractors. On a journey to redefine the end user experience, we are finding creative ways to simplify and automate the enterprise experience for our end user community

The position is located on our PC Management and Software Distribution line, and will provide you with the opportunity to collaborate and network with many technical and operational teams across the organization as we ensure a data driven focus on the delivery of our services. We manage and integrate data from many sources to support the PC lifecycle, including operational(ITSM), asset, systems management, configuration management, and vulnerability management data. Primary focus will be to manage the operational execution and delivery of our data warehouse, data sets, and reports to support others with reliable information to make decisions.

Day to day responsibilities include:
  • Partner with our Product Managers and operational teams on current challenges to identify, prioritize, and deliver solutions that measurably improve the efficiency and consistency of our delivery.
  • Define and manage a data set and reporting library of draft and production certified assets
  • Ensure successful integration of data from multiple sources using ETL, API development, and systems integration
  • Define and manage a data set and reporting library
  • Leverage existing and new technology in creative ways to automate and improve the delivery of our services.
  • Engage in Project based activities
  • Manage and prioritize work in Jira
  • Manage Code in a managed repository and support enterprise approved change management controls.
  • Measure the adoption and value of your solution.

The ideal candidate has
  • Critical thinking and strong communication skills
  • Track record of continual learning and growth
  • Proven Operational and Process engineering experience
  • Strong infrastructure and data management skills including SQL Management Server, SQL/T-SQL, MSBI (SSRS, SSIS), Report Builder
  • Data analysis, reporting, and presentation capabilities (PowerBl, Excel PowerPivot)
  • Demonstrated experience with ETL, API development, and systems integration
  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud / Virtual database technologies (Azure, AWS)
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements gathering and Agile principles.

Other nice to have skills include:
  • MySQL, MySQLWorkbench, Visual Studio, Business Object, Tableau
  • Experience supporting the Microsoft M365 ecosystem and Microsoft Endpoint Manager - SCCM/Intune
  • 1E Platform
  • Development of automation using PowerShell, C#, Java, Angular, GitHub, etc.
  • Experience with Software Asset Management
  • Experience with OS Security / Vulnerability Management
  • Experience with Network systems/protocols (IP, DNS, DHCP, WiFi)
  • UX Design

This role can be filled remotely or in a hybrid capacity, collaborating in office with the team a few days every other week. Subject to change.

The Technology Engineer delivers standard and custom supportable technology products based on Nationwide's architectural standards, technology roadmaps, industry trends and business requirements. You'll be focused on collaboration, data, systems, storage, middleware, network, security and contact center technology products. You're also accountable for the operational aspects and management for the above products in accordance with the business requirements and defined service level agreements (SLAs).

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creates and implements standard builds/templates for all technology platforms.
  • Drives requirements to meet current and future needs, tracks and reports capacity postures.
  • Analyzes reports and delivery recommendations to remediate capacity issues.
  • Implements capacity enhancements.
  • Designs standard and custom technology solutions for business partner projects, including pre-production testing, performance tuning, handoffs and certification.
  • Delivers technology/product optimization, migrations and management, including technology/product design, planning, power and environmental management.
  • Collaborates with others to develop meaningful metrics that drive fact-based decisions on a given product/environment/solution.
  • Conducts proactive system maintenance, disaster recovery planning, data backup and recovery as well as inventory, configuration and utility product management.
  • Executes production engineering processes, incident management, root cause analysis, problem management, change management, release management and knowledge management.
  • Provides production support for all technology platforms.
  • Provides oversight for technical labs and development environments.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security).

Experience: Four years of experience with moderately complex integrated solutions and an ability to develop and modify existing solutions for specialized needs. Experience with automation of solution configurations deployment and with system management processes and tools. Experience with concepts and solutions: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and Package Solutions.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong communication skills, knowledge of planning, management and execution of Accelerated Solutions Deliver framework, Information Security acumen. Influencing, negotiating and priority setting is needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Vice President and HR Business Partner.
