Spinnaker Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Virtasant is a leading cloud consulting services provider. We heavily focus on lift & shift, cloud-native development, cloud cost optimization, and migration services. As a consulting company, we often face the challenge of creating an engineering team in a matter of a week or two. To do that, we have created a secondary support business that runs a talent network and provides staffing services.

Job Summary:

As a Spinnaker SRE, you will be a key player in ensuring our continuous delivery pipeline runs smoothly, efficiently, and securely. Your primary focus will be maintaining and improving our Spinnaker deployment, which is critical for automating and managing our hybrid infrastructure deployments. You will collaborate closely with software engineering, DevOps, and IT teams to design, implement, and support scalable, robust, and highly available systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Reliability & Maintenance: Ensure high availability and reliability of Spinnaker and associated services. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to prevent future incidents.
• Deployment & Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment processes. Work on continuously improving deployment strategies, ensuring zero downtime deployments and rollbacks.
• Performance Tuning: Optimize Spinnaker's performance by tuning configurations, updating resources, and implementing best practices for scalability and efficiency.
• Security & Compliance: Enforce security best practices for Spinnaker configurations and deployments. Regularly audit the infrastructure to comply with industry standards and organizational policies.
• Incident Management: Respond to and resolve operational incidents related to Spinnaker. Participate in on-call rotation, providing critical issue resolution and ensuring system stability.
• Collaboration & Support: Work closely with development teams to integrate new features and services into the continuous delivery pipeline. Provide expert advice and support for Spinnaker-related queries and issues.
• Documentation & Training: Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Train and mentor team members on Spinnaker and SRE best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Proven experience in an SRE or similar role, with a strong focus on Spinnaker or similar continuous delivery tools.
• Deep understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).
• Proficiency in programming scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Typescript, Shell).
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix administration.
• Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Strong experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills. Robust spoken English is mandatory. 
• You need to live somewhere in the Americas, for this role. 

Preferred Skills:

• Certifications in cloud computing platforms.
• Knowledge of networking, security, and database administration.
