Sports Reporter

Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with the ability to travel and report on a wide variety of stories, proficient in multimedia and the use of social media.
What you will do:

• Cover, photograph, live tweet, and video at a variety of live sporting events
• Prepare photos to accompany feature articles
• Post/prepare score results for online and print
• Interview coaches, athletes to enrich content
• Assist in preparation of weekly schedule
• Construct local roundup/agate
• Use social media to engage the audience
• Beat focuses primarily on high school teams, Tri-City ValleyCats, and local college athletes
• Send pages on deadline
• Proofread and edit contributor submissions/press releases
• Final approval of print pages for the sports section 2x weekly

What you will bring:

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree (with comparable experience) in journalism or related field
• Experience in photography and a willingness to experiment with new storytelling tools and social media approaches
• Strong writing across a variety of story types
• A mindset to put the reader first
• Some experience in copy editing
• Curiosity is a must
