Position Summary

PCORI's Engagement Award (EA) Program funds projects that build communities prepared to participate in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). To support internal learning about the funded projects, the EA Program seeks an intern to conduct a qualitative analysis of evaluation reporting tools completed by EA projects.

EA projects evaluate their work and at the end of the project submit an evaluation reporting tool to PCORI. The EA Program aims to better understand the content of these evaluation reporting tools through a thematic analysis of a sub-set of evaluation reporting tools. The intern will lead a thematic analysis with support from their EA supervisor, including refining the learning question(s), developing and refining codes and the codebook, interpreting and synthesizing the learnings, and making suggestions for improved data collection/use. Data will be coded using a qualitative analysis software or platform (e.g., Atlas.ti, Nvivo, Dedoose). Learnings and suggestions will be presented in a summary report and presentation to the EA team.

The Engagement Award department is seeking an intern who will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop initial codes and codebook and identify emerging themes. Based on feedback EA team members, revise codes, themes and codebook and learning questions if relevant.
  • Draft summary learnings and suggestions for report; develop draft presentation.
  • Present key themes and suggestions for improvements to the evaluation reporting tool to the Engagement Award team.

Pay Range and Employment Status:

Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits.
  • Bachelor's hourly pay: $17.50
  • Master's and above hourly pay: $20.00

Required Experience

Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program in Public Health or a related field."

Qualitative analysis skills are required.
  • Thematic analysis skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with qualitative analysis software preferred (e.g., Atlas.ti, Nvivo, Dedoose).
  • Ability to organize, synthesize, and interpret findings.
