Job Description

ISS Corporate Solutions (ICS) help companies design and manage their corporate governance, executive compensation, and sustainability programs to align with company goals, reduce risk, and manage the needs of a diverse shareholder base by delivering best-in-class data, tools, and advisory services.

Do you have a passion for using technology to turn raw data into polished insights? Are you a wiz at transforming information into compelling visualizations? Do you have a knack for automating the production of reports? If so, this role is for you!

The successful candidate will write complex queries using Microsoft SQL Server to distill terabytes of proprietary data, automate meaningful analytical insights in finished PowerPoint client deliverables through new and existing .NET code, and track errors that could prevent accurate data presentation. Additionally, you will generate custom reports using client-supplied proprietary data, assist the advisory team with content creation, and fulfill ad-hoc requests from the sales team. Over time, you will help us identify and implement new ways to analyze and present information in new deliverables to leverage our extensive repository of compensation, governance, and sustainability data.

Desired skills and capabilities:

Technical skills
  • Robust SQL querying skills and demonstrated ability to write complex T-SQL queries from scratch
  • Ability to modify existing code and write new code in C#.NET in Visual Studio
  • Familiarity with or interest in Microsoft PowerPoint primary interop assembly
  • Comfort with data manipulation in Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, Indirect, Index, Match, FVSchedule, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and more
  • Experience working with Git or similar source code management systems

Communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Aptitude for transforming quantitative data into compelling visualizations

Analytic skills
  • Able to break down issues into component parts, to learn technical subject matter quickly, and to diagnose client needs and identify relevant resources
  • Intellectually curious and dedicated to mastering complex concepts while willing to turn to others for assistance when necessary
  • High proficiency in distilling massive amounts of data

Management skills
  • Committed to documenting and commenting all code
  • Effective at managing time and meeting deadlines while working independently
  • Persistent when faced with debugging code and resolving issues

Job requirements:
  • Bachelors degree or associates degree with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience; at least 3 years of experience in a similar role or function
  • Understanding of relational database concepts
  • Robust T-SQL skills; C#.NET, Python, or similar OOP language experience along with knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Studio, and Git

Why would I be interested?
  • Our primary content areas, corporate governance, executive compensation, and sustainability, are front of mind to companies and investors. ISS maintains among the world's most robust collection of executive compensation, corporate governance, and corporate sustainability data.
  • Formal on-boarding and training process that helps you build a foundation for success in a rapidly growing business.
  • We have a growing suite of reports that you would maintain and support. You would also help create new reports, tools, and deliverables to support new and existing lines of business. While we have a number of new and ongoing projects, this position reflects our need to have a robust team to support our existing portfolio and to have bandwidth to support the growth of our businesses.
  • Ability to build knowledge in and work with different programming languages. For example:
    • Writing T-SQL queries in SQL Server Management Studio to gather, organize, and manipulate data.
    • Transforming SQL output into PowerPoint deliverables using C#.NET in Visual Studio.
  • Multiple avenues for growth and professional development, some potential areas/projects are:
    • Using Python to create data analyses and data visualizations to integrate into our existing workflow.
    • Developing the analysis framework, report structure, and workflow for a new deliverable utilizing board diversity data.
    • Becoming a subject matter expert on executive compensation, corporate governance, and sustainability data such that you can build tools and reporting to unlock new sources of revenue.
  • This opportunity allows you to experience the best of two roles - both a business analyst and a developer. The ideal candidate is a mix of both, able to develop requirements in addition to translating them into code. Thus, we need someone who has skills and experiences with programming languages (as mentioned elsewhere, SQL, C#, Python, etc.). This means that we will be unable to consider business analyst candidates who lack programming language expertise.
  • Flexible work locations with standard working hours
