We are looking for people who are passionate about creating a new businesses and developing viability models for the financial services industry. This person will be part of the Innovation team within P&C innovation which operates in a dynamic environment that works in close partnership with Business Units to incubate, test, launch and scale adjacent and transformational insurance products and services.

This role is a key part of that strategy by providing a structured and independent assessment of market opportunity, potential target , market and customer driven feasibility considerations for all aspects of business viability. The Business lead supports the initiatives from inception thru design, development, and market launch of products and services. Alongside a cross-functional team of researchers, product managers, engineers, designers, and matrixed partners, business leads are engaged in all critical decisions including pivot, exit or scale.

This role supports the Property & Casualty (P&C) Innovation and focuses on identifying and driving growth opportunities that are strategically aligned, customer centric, and leverage Nationwide's expanding capabilities.

All candidates should have experience in business design, development and viability including financial modeling and forecasting. Business lead provides a structured and independent assessment of market opportunity, potential target, market and customer driven feasibility considerations all aspects of business viability. Business lead supports the initiatives from inception thru design, development, and market launch of products and services. Alongside a cross-functional team of researchers, product managers, engineers, designers, and matrixed partners, business leads are engaged in all critical decisions including pivot, exit or scale.

We are looking for candidates with deeper experience in P&C Insurance experience and strong financial acumen.

Nationwide pays based on a geographic-specific salary structure. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range. The role may also be eligible for either short-term or long-term incentive plans based on business and/or position-specific results. Newly hired full-time associates receive a minimum of 18 days paid time off each full calendar year, pro-rated quarterly based on hire date. Newly hired full-time associates at higher job levels may receive additional paid time off. You will also receive 8 hours of Lifetime paid time off and 8 hours of Unity Day paid time off. The range for this role is listed below.

In Washington, the salary range for Sr Cons, Bus Lead - Innovation is $118,000 to $159,000.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a member of an innovation pod (group), where collaboration with product managers, designers, researchers, technologists and business/finance leads to the best outcome
  • Assists leader with project management, working with multi-disciplinary team with skill sets across a broad array of the value chain and innovation process
  • Owns the identification of market potential, product-market-fit strategy, establishing go-to-market strategies, estimation of potential revenues, operational support strategy, distribution analysis, market and product positioning
  • Identifies and clearly articulates key business hypothesis and assumptions, and partners with the team to convert these to knowledge and facts to facilitate the innovation decision-making process
  • Accountable for crafting dynamic business models through a data-driven process, using the expertise, methodologies and tools used by the team
  • Works with the cross-functional team and team leader to set business and product metrics and goals to measure success.
  • Identifies efficient scaling plans for bringing products/services to the broader organization and works with cross-functional partners to actively transition initiatives to the core business, new business line or other entity (including spin out options)
  • Provides clear direction on the process and decision-making steps in assessing and developing the building blocks of a viable business and business model
  • Supports and participates in rapid prototyping of ideas and solutions directly with consumers and customers, and iterates to arrive at solutions that exceed customer expectations and build new value and points of differentiation.
  • Keeps a pulse on industry movement and activities and remains on top of key trends within insurance, financial services, start-ups and technology companies.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Innovation Director; Individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business, marketing, product or engineering; MBA preferred.

Experience: Ten or more years of diverse business experiences with an emphasis on strategy, finance, innovation and product management, ideally with new digital products for consumers or businesses (big and/or small). Experience working in PowerPoint and presentation creation; proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Diverse business experience, especially in innovation and the development of new products, new services, and building new businesses. Must have an understanding the various business models of the new opportunity to development of an investable business case and new business models. Possesses a quick and keen understanding of past, current and future business and technical strategies, technologies, and current trends. Entrepreneurial mentality to explore business opportunities in a structured yet iterative way. Strong financial and analytical skills and a proven track record to think strategically about customer needs, market dynamics and business impact. Excellent verbal and written communications skills; Excellent organizational skills, able to problem solve, prioritize and manage multiple, parallel projects in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment. Strong focus on testing fast, learning fast and experiment quickly. Ability to act as a change agent and align teams on new insights and ways of working. Ability to clearly articulate the decisions behind your recommendations, as well as the ability to analyze the results of modeling and testing and recommend solutions.
