GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Senior Content Strategist/Writer is responsible for elevating American Equity & it's affiliate companies' brand, product, and thought leadership by creatively articulating their value propositions for key segments and audiences. They develop content and omnichannel strategy while serving as a consultant to key stakeholders across the business, helping to drive new business opportunities, elevate our brands, and recruit, grow, and retain producers.

The Senior Content Strategist is an exceptionally strong creative writer with strong knowledge of web strategy, social media channels and content trends. They have experience with analytics to deliver data-driven recommendations that will help continually evolve American Equity's approach to delivering engaging content and brand storytelling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Owns and manages enterprise and campaign-specific content calendars to support and enhance the organization's brand, products and services, while ensuring alignment with key internal stakeholders.
  • Serves as a strategic consultant to key stakeholders, sharing best practices in content, channel strategy and engagement.
  • Supports copywriting requests for web, landing pages, organic and paid social media, digital ads, etc., as well as requests for video and presentation scripting.
  • Monitors, analyzes and optimizes content performance to enhance activities and grow communities and engagement.
  • Coordinates with third-party vendors to support needs across various projects and campaigns.
  • Brainstorms and develops differentiating ideas, transforms these ideas into powerful and effective written communications that can be repurposed through new and innovative channels.
  • Collaborates with multiple teams to deliver high quality, accurate content that is consistent with our brand guidelines.
  • Ensures full understanding of relevant insights and agent/employee segmentations and targets that will lead to engaging and powerful communications; makes the most of communications materials from a content perspective.
  • Stays abreast of new content technologies and mediums to ensure American Equity is taking advantage of relevant, new communication & marketing opportunities.
  • Gathers key business insights and applies strategic thinking to create short and long-term vision for compelling and branded content.
  • Writes website content, emails, postcards, letters, brochures, and other agent/ NMO communication pieces.
  • Rewrites/updates existing American Equity brochures as necessary, packaging content in new mediums.
  • Partners with graphics designers to deliver outstanding content, communications, and storytelling.
  • Works with outside vendors for printing and other communication activities and internal partners for various projects.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university in Journalism, Communications or related field of study; plus, eight (8) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Writer Portfolio preferred to demonstrate skills and abilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:

None required for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert knowledge of major content distribution channels and their evolving capabilities and mechanics.
  • Proven track record developing and executing creative media strategies that meet business objectives (examples/portfolio preferred).
  • Strong creative writing experience (examples/portfolio preferred).
  • Experience with both B2B and B2C social content and engagement.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to execute upon strategic plans, transfer knowledge to other team members, and provide feedback efficiently.
  • Proficiency with web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics), content measurement & reporting tools.
  • Experience with content management platforms.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders to maximize programs impact and sales support initiatives; assesses and builds business solutions from a marketing perspective.
