More About the Role
Grubhub is looking for Senior Data Engineers for building data pipelines to provide faster access for analytics community to analytics ready data. You will play a pivotal role in laying the foundations of data engineering frameworks to bridge the gap between Data Warehouse and metrics by standing up domain based data products. You will partner with stakeholders to standardize metrics for usage across reporting, experimentation and ad-hoc analyses. This is an opportunity to use cutting edge big data capabilities of Grubhub's Data plaform and to collaborate with smart colleagues to build innovative data solutions, helping Grubhub to derive value from data at a rapid pace.

• Achieve high performance distributed data processing of huge volumes of data using Spark and Trino in a cloud based environment, preferably AWS. Apply Spark performance optimization techniques to create reliable production grade data pipelines. Enable low-latency analytics using Trino by applying distributed query optimizations and storing data in efficient formats.
• Follow engineering best practices to create high quality ETL code and tests. Use CI/CD automated testing, data validations and data observability to ensure high quality data.
• Model data for analytics usage in a data lake or lake house set up. Define data lineage of how analytics ready data can be built from upstream data sources.
• Independently collaborate with technical and non technical stakeholders including product managers, data analysts, data scientists, engineers to discover and bring clarity to requirements. Be in a position to understand requirements effectively and use effective communication to onboard stakeholders to implement right data solutions.

• Do deep dives on the business domains where you become one of the foremost data experts on that domain in the company.

• Mentor junior data engineers on data pipeline designs, technical and domain learnings, coding and testing best practices.
• Contribute to the data engineering excellence and best practices, use of data engineering architecture and new technologies.
• Maintain up-to-date technical documentation while delivering technical solutions and business impacts.

What You Bring to the Table

• A bachelor's degree in a computer-related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in large-scale distributed data processing using Apache Spark
• Excellent knowledge of SQL and data modeling techniques.
• 5+ years experience with Python or another general-purpose programming language.
• Background in ETL and data pipelines, familiar with how to transform data to meet our goals.
• Take on ownership of projects at both a technical and organizational level.
• Willingness to understand the larger business context.
• Be passionate about learning and knowledge sharing.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
• Exposure to Amazon AWS or another cloud provider.
• Enthusiasm for data and the desire to work with a great team!

• Experience in building data pipelines processing high volume Clickstream data to support product analytics.
• Familiarity with A/B testing concepts and experience in building pipelines to automate experiment results analysis
• Exposure to concepts of Metric or Semantic layer, related tooling and productionized solutions.

NYC Salary Range: $164,500 - $205,500
The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
