Job purpose

BorgWarner is seeking a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead our global cyber and data security programs to secure. BorgWarner Information Security is responsible for all aspects of information security across the enterprise, including application, cloud, infrastructure, and device security. This includes both the technical aspects of information security (solutions, event mgmt., detection, response), and broader ecosystem measures including security awareness training, IT policies, and overall IT compliance. Additionally, this role will have responsibility for the End User Compute (EUC) group which includes managing end user devices across the BorgWarner ecosystem, PC & device refreshes, PC imaging, and replacement of End of Security Life (EOSL) devices.

We're seeking a proven leader with the ability to define and execute our cybersecurity strategy, add rigor to our Cyber and EUC operations, and build on our existing effectiveness with new innovative ideas. This leader must also build strong relationships with business executives and stakeholders, all while building a highly skilled and diverse team that delivers on their commitments. This position will partner across business units and functions to drive major security initiatives and will be responsible for effectively communicating goals, risks, and tradeoffs to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

This position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer and will be an integral member of the Information Technology Leadership Team (ITLT) with frequent exposure to BorgWarner Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors.

Key responsibilities

  • Be a business leader, focused on information security and risk management. Develop relationships across Executive team, IT leaders, and Business stakeholders, and work with them to deliver to committed targets and objectives
  • Lead security risk and compliance activities across the organization to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of BorgWarner information assets
  • Define a global information security strategy and associated roadmap to help BorgWarner mature into the future; measure progress and status
  • Lead, manage and develop a global team of information security and end user computing professionals, and 3rd party service providers. Provide continual feedback, training, and growth opportunities to keep team members up-to-date and motivated to be at BorgWarner
  • Ensure that vulnerabilities and threats across the BorgWarner environment are monitored, identified, reported, acted on, and mitigated in a timely manner
  • Complete security risk assessments, testing, and security event simulations (both technology and process) to strengthen our response readiness and identifying preventative actions to strengthen our posture
  • Proactively identify information security deficiencies and opportunities for improvement to better enable business security at the global level. Lead the development and implementation of pragmatic solutions across enterprise
  • Regularly update BorgWarner Board of Directors and Executive teams on cyber security strategy, initiatives and actions, and incidents / response
  • Lead End User Computing to ensure PC builds, patching, and software distribution technologies cost effectively meet business and security requirements
  • Coordinate End User Computing execution and support across Service Delivery, Networking, Data Center, and Active Directory teams to deliver PC and software services across the organization
  • Establish and manage End User Computing strategy, standards, support processes, roadmaps, and budgets
  • Integrate with IT and Business groups developing future software product platforms and solutions to ensure market solutions are secure and scalable
  • Be the primary custodian of information security policies, risk assessment processes, standards, and related documentation
  • Plan and manage the annual Information Security budget for investments and ongoing operations
  • Act as the incident lead during an active information security (or cyber security) incidents. Take responsibility to execute an root cause analysis and report independent observations and drive improvements to reduce future attacks
  • Interface with appropriate legal, corporate security, or HR groups to ensure appropriate regulatory, legal, internal, or physical processes are in-place and being followed to support all related group actions and procedures
  • Oversee and support the internal and external reporting requirements for information security (e.g. SOX, GDPR, TISAX).
  • Implement innovative and proactive security training programs to grow global awareness and help build continuous focus on sensitive data, IP protection, and security safeguards
  • Be a continual leaner on information security and risk management. Lead by example in learning best practices from others, trying new innovative approaches, exploring new solutions to market, and building knowledge from vendors

What we're looking for

  • Preference of bachelor's in information technology related field, though relevant and evidenced professional experience consistent with role would be considered. Master's degree would be a plus
  • Professional security management certifications preferred
  • Ability to work in distributed environment that requires high degrees of interaction, collaboration, and ability to successfully communicate in business terms
  • High learning agility and willingness to continually grow and learn from others.
  • Ability to lead, grow, and develop others - team members, peers, business leaders
  • Strong Knowledge of common information security management frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST
  • Strong understanding of all IT disciplines and interdependencies
  • Experience in Agile and cloud-based software development or other best in class development and infrastructure practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of scripting and source code programming languages, such as C#, C++, .NET, and Java.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, work under tight deadlines, and handle changing priorities.
  • Evidenced ability to create and measure an IT security strategy
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of current legislation/regulations globally relevant to our IT Organization
  • Knowledge and experience with IT controls and governance.
