Hearst's Culture
We provide a supportive, inclusive culture, where colleagues can access extensive training and development opportunities. We prioritize robust internship, mentorship, and sponsorship programs to advance a strong pipeline of diverse talent. Our content offers audiences a range of perspectives, while HearstLab invests in women-led startups innovating in media, technology and data, and Level Up invests in Black and Latino-led businesses in these sectors, connecting them to Hearst resources and colleagues to provide expertise, advice and assistance. Colleagues have access to numerous Employee Resource Groups that foster inclusion and belonging.
Giving back and contributing have always been part of Hearst's DNA, whether through employee volunteerism, corporate donation-matching in response to crises, or local initiatives in our many operating markets. The Hearst Gives Back program provides a dollar-for-dollar match for colleague gifts to any one of more than one million 501 (c)(3) organizations up to $10,000 per colleague per year. The Hearst Foundations, independent private philanthropies operating separately from Hearst, identify and fund nonprofits to ensure that people of all backgrounds in the United States have the opportunity to build healthy, productive and inspiring lives, distributing more than 22,000 grants to 6,335 organizations, totaling over $1.4 billion since their inception.
We care about sustainability. Since becoming the first publicly acknowledged, triple LEED-certified building in the U.S. in 2016, Hearst Tower in New York City continues to be a symbol of sustainability, implementing no- and low-cost energy-efficiency initiatives that have reduced energy costs by an additional 40%. And Hearst's Jack Ranch California Flats Solar Project consists of one million individual solar modules to produce clean, renewable electricity, displacing over 109,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. The company's first Sustainability Overview will be published in October 2022.
