About the Role

As Senior Director of Operations working in our global Technology, Infrastructure and Operations (TIO) group, you will be responsible for delivering and supporting software products across your portfolio. Our objective is to build and support reliable and cost-effective systems and to enable product teams to ship quality software to customers quickly and easily.

Responsibilities
  • Defining and developing the infrastructure vision and strategy as senior member of the TIO leadership team.
  • Working collaboratively with Product and Development leadership to ensure a common understanding of the customer experience so that we can make joint decisions on engineering priorities.
  • Ensuring Elsevier's operational frameworks, policies and best practices are consistently applied across the product portfolio. Including systems design, incident management, disaster recovery and lifecycle management.
  • Ensuring that Systems Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) are working effectively as part of a cross-functional product delivery team. Increasing deployment frequency, minimizing change failures and maintaining service levels.
  • Accelerating customer-centric product innovation by ensuring we maintain and promote the use of secure, high-performing, and reliable platforms and shared services.
  • Responsible for infrastructure and operations budgets and forecasting, including the creation of business cases that support lasting improvements across the portfolio.
  • Developing an inclusive, engaged, agile culture to promote innovation and collaboration where our colleagues can grow their careers.


Requirements
  • Demonstrate broad experience and exposure of creating and delivering successful software delivery or infrastructure strategies and programs.
  • You are an innovative, passionate leader who can create high performing global engineering teams that use software to solve complex problems.
  • Engaging, influencing and building relationships with stakeholders naturally and teams across a global-matrixed organization. You are inquisitive and not afraid to make hard choices to achieve the best outcomes for our people and customers.
  • Possess a proven record of implementing DevOps and SRE methodologies, principles, and practices. Through data and metrics, you can demonstrate a holistic view of how these working practices help build and support products for our customers.
  • Demonstrate leadership of teams in the delivery and support of products at scale, as well as how platforms and shared services can increase reliability and developer efficiency.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing budgets and producing business cases ranging from the implementation of efficient operating models, optimization initiatives to the integration of company acquisitions.
