About the Role

*** This position will be based in our Atlanta, GA office.

Workday's Product and Technology Strategic Planning Organization plans, drives and executes the top strategic programs that underpin the Product & Technology focused Workday portfolio. These premier programs require superior planning, governance and execution oversight to maximize business value and optimize outcomes across numerous domains.

We are looking for a Sr. Director, PMO to join our team to lead the centralized Product and Technology PMO team (it's not your standard PMO!). You will be responsible for leading an elite team that manages complex, cross-functional programs that accelerate or enable Workday's top business initiatives.

You will expertly define, structure and operationalize programs, align stakeholders, and drive critical outcomes. Embracing Program Management best practices and tools, you'll create project management best practices and guide a community of Program and Project Managers while creating remarkable employee experiences.

As a seasoned leader you will take proactive ownership of complex planning, resolve programmatic challenges and provide strategic recommendations to ensure business objectives are consistently met. You will also ensure initiatives align to strategy and provide progress visibility against those initiatives ongoing.

Responsibilities:
  • Change agent and strategic innovator on all PMO operations (Portfolio, Reporting, Communications, Training and more)
  • Ongoing evaluation, intake and prioritization of programs in partnership with stakeholders leveraging industry best practices
  • Design stakeholder alignment plans that address the custom needs of our wide array stakeholders
  • Take ownership of complex planning and complex programmatic issues and proactively solve for the leadership team
  • Drive data driven decision making and planning on all programs
  • Ensure initiatives to align to strategy and provide progress visibility against those initiatives
  • Evolve and operate light-weight, consistent practices and PM artifacts, elevate our process and practice 'Gold Standards'
  • Establish operating models, frameworks and cohesive communication plans for large scale initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional alignments, ensuring clarity of focus and driving commitments with partners and stakeholders of all levels
  • Lead product and technology wide investigations, assess impacts and approach prior to establishing programs
  • Manage multiple, complex initiatives in parallel- with ongoing reporting to executive leadership
  • Identify and escalate issues or resource conflicts and be able to manage trade-offs involving features, cost, design and schedule
  • Effectively communicate with senior management on decisions that impact multiple programs
  • Effectively communicate with cross functional teams through the complete program / project cycle
  • Partner with internal customers to develop new insights and understand long term vision of programs
  • Lead and drive PMO communications at all levels, ensuring quality, cohesive narratives
  • Coach, mentor and develop Sr PMO Staff, developing career plans for each
  • Represent PMO organization in critical meetings and forums

About You

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years experience in project/program management
  • Experience working as a Director and/or Senior Director with responsibility for an organization of 50+ individuals
  • 5+ years of experience with Agile project management and process improvement methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (mostly domestic)

Other Qualifications:
  • Experience managing enterprise wide initiatives with complex change management
  • Experience leading and participating in technical and cross-functional projects with broad technical aptitude
  • Ability to identify dependencies between complex programs/projects and comprehend impact
  • Determined problem solver capable of translating issues into simple terms to facilitate discussions and decisions
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills
  • Effective in and experienced in managing cross functional relationships
  • Able to drive collaboration and influence multiple teams. Thrive in a diverse environment
  • Experience designing organizational models and roadmaps
  • Passion for developing talent and training strategies
  • Prior experience working for a SaaS company desired
