Sr Editor - Native News, MPR News
Job Description
The Senior Editor, Native News will be a leader in defining MPR News coverage primarily on news and issues related to Native communities in Minnesota and the upper Midwest region with superior content development and workflow on every platform. We are looking for a supportive editor who will help producers and reporters do their best work, as well as help lead the vision of Native news reporting across the MPR News team. Thinking beyond traditional platforms to include social channels, events and more, the Senior Editor will be an expert storyteller with Native news expertise and the ability to foster partnerships and collaborations across the team, departments, and the community. There may also be assignments to support other teams/areas of news coverage as deemed necessary.
The Senior Editor develops detailed plans and works in a hands-on capacity to realize those plans producing and editing exceptional daily news, data-driven enterprise news, features, explainers, evergreen content, and long-term projects and specials, etc.
Expected Compensation Range: $84,000 - $100,800/yr. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Responsibility:
- Serve as the lead editorial and content editor, audio/digital for Native news reporting.
- Help producers and reporters develop and structure various Native news reporting for multiple platforms.
- Work collaboratively with teams across MPR News, often on multiple projects at a time, as an editor and mentor.
- Work with MPR News leadership on Native news coverage and strategy.
- Guide and edit audio/visual news content, cultivating superior performance in a digital-first newsroom environment across all platforms.
- Performs public outreach, as needed.
- Other duties within MPR News as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required
- 5 yrs. of editing or equivalent experience.
- 5 or more years of experience in journalism. including experience creating, managing content and workflows
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Proven editorial judgment with a commitment to superior quality and innovative journalism, with an understanding of media production and editing
- Knowledge of the Native community and culture, developed source network.
- Able to work well and productively in an environment where news is constantly changing and being updated and have the temperament to enjoy the process
- Must demonstrate an ability to foster exceptional standards while coaching, inspiring and leading.
- Ability to prioritize work and make resource decisions in a fast-paced media environment
- Excellent coaching, communication, and teamwork skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to manage some work outside of standard office hours as needed.

- Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping
- Ability to use and carry up to 10 pounds of photo/video/audio gear
