We are currently hiring a Sr. Engineer to join our IOD Materials & Process Development Team in Fort Worth, TX. This person will conduct exploratory research to produce new knowledge and potential products; conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase chemistry's role in and contribution to the discovery and chemical approaches to meet exploratory objectives in product discovery. Develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, synthetic methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques. Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of projects.

Job Title: Sr. Engineer

Location: Fort Worth, TX

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience in polymer chemistry, materials, synthesis and physical/chemical characterization of polymeric materials required.
  • Knowledge of coatings and coating processes is preferred.
  • Experience in Acrylic Polymeric materials/process is preferred.
  • Experience in biodegradable hydrogel formulations is preferred.
  • Experience in medical devices Materials, Chemistry R&D is preferred.
  • Experience in operating and reporting data from various thermal, mechanical, spectroscopic, and chromatographic (GPC, GC, LC etc.) equipment as well as surface characterization methods (SEM, metrology, hardness, roughness, X-ray, AFM, etc) is preferred.
  • Experience in surface treatments and coatings and related surface characterization methods (tribology, EDX, ATR, Mass etc) is preferred.
  • Analyze and interpret data independently and thoroughly based on critical thinking and the use of statistic tools.
  • Develop test methods and procedures for use in material characterization.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment and work with external vendors to identify and acquire new equipment.
  • Develop insights into new materials that can have ophthalmic application in the eye and on the cornea. Expert knowledge in surface and bulk material characterization techniques and surface engineering for coating process development.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand design and medical device manufacturing processes to implement effective and efficient systems for product development.
  • Collaborate and support product development activities in manufacturing sites.
  • Participate in process development teams to trouble-shoot process related issues and determine root-cause of failures and process variations.
  • Works independently with minimal guidance from senior technical professionals to accomplish objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills as well as effective communication skills.

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
