Job Description Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer in this role is an individual contributor with deep expertise in electrical and electro-mechanical systems focused on sustaining BD's existing flagship Infusion Pumps and Medication Cabinets.

This is an exciting role that will require both your strong technical and leadership skills to effectively work with your peers and leadership across functional groups, global CM partners and suppliers that will challenge you to organize and measure the best of your energies and skills.

In addition to leading engineering projects of varying complexities, you will provide product lifecyle management support in finding solutions to component and peripherals' obsolence, conduct failure investigations and resolve issues as they come up from operations, customer base, and supplier.

Summary
Designs electromechanical systems and components for medical devices using internal and external design standards, engineering principles, theories, and concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the product development activities of a project team, which includes designing the system/product, developing test requirements, performing analysis on both new and existing products to improve performance, reliability and usability, and preparing technical documentation required by customers, regulatory agencies or internal procedures.
  • Analyzes user needs, defines project scope and objectives, and develops product specifications for a wide range of complex projects.
  • Develops conceptual designs and evaluates alternatives using computer-aided design (CAD) tools and other analytical methods.
  • Ensures all aspects of product design are in compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborates with multiple functional areas such as manufacturing, marketing, sales, service, and finance to ensure that the product meets customer requirements and business goals.
  • Actively supports a culture of continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and corrective action follow up.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and implements cost improvements within the constraints of safety, functionality, and reliability.
  • Mentors less experienced engineers; may also oversee work of contract personnel.
  • Travels to factories and suppliers to resolve issues and collaborate on projects.

Qualifications
Education


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design of complex electro-mechanical assemblies, including hands-on experience with mechanics of materials, structural analysis, tolerance stackup, material selection, vibration isolation, kinematics, dynamic modeling, thermal management, motion control, machine controls, hydraulic/electronic controls, robotics, or automated equipment.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC standards and practices.
  • Experience with FDA regulations and ISO 14971 Medical Device Risk Management Standard.
  • Experience with 6 Sigma project management techniques.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks software or similar CAD tool.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.

  • Advanced understanding of mechanical design processes and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of mechanical subsystems used in medical products.
  • Hands-on experience with common mechanical measurement tools and instrumentation.
